Does anyone else wipe their ball down after every use?
« on: April 09, 2009, 01:47:01 PM »
I was wondering if anyone else does this. I wipe my ball down with a microfiber towel after every shot. Say I throw a strike or spare, I then wait on my ball to return if I am using it for a spare, then wipe it off before returning to my seat.

Sopmetime I think peoiple are like, why is this guy so anal about wiping his ball off before every shot.

I have yet to have a ball show reaction loss. So this might be key.

Anyone else do this, or am I the only one.

no, you are not the only one who does this. i've done it since i started bowling. for me it's part cleaning the oil off the ball and part pre-shot routine. if you watch the pba on tv you'll see many players who do this.

I too wipe the ball before every shot. Part of my pre-shot routine and I get a look at the flare rings.

I wipe my ball before every shot with Remedy RX, even spares (I throw the same ball for strikes/spares, no need for a plastic)

Bowling is about consistency and repetition. So why would you throw a bowling ball covered with oil flares that will cause an inconsistent reaction down the lane?

I wipe it off before my shot, but I don't stand around and wait for it to come back on the ball return after a strike/spare.

See this is what I do, I wait aftre say throwing a strike and wipe my ball down, while the fresh oil is sitting on top.

Doesn't give the oil a chance of soaking in, before being up again

I don't just stand there like an idiot, I allow other bowlers to do there thing, and when I have a opportunity so when noone is in the way I will pick it up and wipe it off.

I think you guys didn't understand what I was asking in my post.

Usually I just take a shower.

Seriously though, I think it's a little much to wait for a ball and then wipe it off. Before every shot is good enough for me.

Unless there's an unusual time difference in nights, I pick up mine, wipe it down, set down (after it returns) so I don't take up space near the return. Pre-shot, I use my shirt as well. Just something I do, more habit than anything else. If the game is going fast, I may miss a frame or so, it depends on the speed, but always on my shirt no matter what.

Obviously most wipe their ball every shot, but I see pros or even really good amatuers that rarely wipe their balls.  Wipe the ball to make it last longer, but does it really effect the reaction of the next shot if you don't?

I use to before every shot. For some reason I got away from it. I have seen no difference in ball reaction. As far as waiting for the ball to come back and then wipe it off I hope you are at least getting out of the way.
