Is Easy Slide illegal?
« on: November 16, 2007, 02:06:29 AM »
I seen in another post that someone suggested that using easy slide on your shoe is illegel, is that so?  In the past I have used easy slide extensively to help me slide.  I injured both my legs in the first Gulf War causing significant damage to both my knees, ankles and calves.  I took about 30 pieces of shrapnel from a cluster bomb.  The only way I could even consider bowling is if I was able to slide with very little resistance or it would hurt like hell or I would end up doing a belly flop into the alley.  Nobody ever complained.  I am not currently using easy slide now as I have purchase a new pair of Dexter SST5 with the interchangeable heals and slide pads that enable me to slide pretty well.  Nonetheless, I still keep a bag of easy slide in my bag for emergencies.

There are two alternatives as mentioned in another reply you can get a slide sock they are cheaper then the soles about 10.00 and work great or I have found a slide stone it is a 1"x2.5" block of wood with soapstone affixed to it and you rub it on the soles/heels of your shoes it leaves no redidue and is the best slide aid I have ever used, cost 5.00$ and last approx 2 years.

A few years ago at BowlExpo, VIA had a lane setup and if you struck on the lane they put you in a drawing for $100.  They were sweeping EZ Slide off the approach with a wisk broom and people were sticking all over the place.  The approaches were just plain nasty.  The only thing I had was a frog green Bowlers Slide Sock in my bag.  I prepped it on Astroturf for a few minutes and went up to give it a try.  The pattern was oil gutter to gutter and 60 feet long.  After 3 attempts with a VIA house ball I struck and left Vegas with their $100!  Perfect slide no problems every time.  Slick, Tacky, Wood, Synthetic, EZ Slide Coated it does not matter!  The less you have to worry about your footing the better you bowl.  Not all Slide Socks are the same!  DEMAND the BEST!  SLSM Design's Bowlers Slide SockTM

I tried a slide sock (don't recall the brand) once and fell down big time. It was just like stepping out on the oily lane and you know how that is. Thus, the slide sock isn't the answer for everyone with sticking problems. I don't use easy slide or powder either one, but do on rare occasion put soap stone on my sole. If I ever have a sticking problem, it is almost always on synthetic approaches. Seems almost all synthetic lanes have sticky approaches to some extent.

Smash49 is right about the Bowler's Slide Sock.  I've been using it for three years, and don't worry a bit about the approaches anywhere I've bowled.  I haven't tried any of the other socks, but I can verify that this one works.  --  JohnP

Tried one. While VERY consistent and good, it simply does not slide as much as the teflon inserts on/in my Linds Exxxtras.

Not all Slide Socks are alike.  Most models are made of felt or flannel like material which is normally very slick.  The Bowler's Slide SockTM is not about slick and does not use flannel or felt.  It is about being correct and providing the most normal slide possible.  They come with instructions for first time preparation.  Anyone can just throw a piece of fabric over a bowling shoe and call it a Slide Sock.  The tough part is to have the sock perform properly and that is the difference.

Well I cant stand any powder that helps people slide. Now I know that if I am sliding there is something on the approach. I say this because I plant, and I normaly dont use my dynorooz, I can normaly be found bowling in a pair of AND 1's. They help when I plant and if I slide in those then there is something wrong.

The biggest thing that most of you are forgetting, wheather a bowler is and "Idiot" or a " Moron" as some of you have put it, the rule is the rule, if you have a problem with the rule take it up with USBC, or have another rule in your league saying it is OK to use E-Z Slide.
Until then this is an arguement that is getting you no where.

Just use it carefully and sparingly to ensure you don't track any excess onto the approach or spill in the settee area and you'll be fine.
