lol! Mushtare in 204TH PLACE! LOL
« on: July 11, 2006, 01:35:11 PM »
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Heading into the 2006 United States Bowling Congress Junior Gold Championships, Robert Mushtare of Carthage, N.Y., had a simple goal. He wanted to average 200 for the tournament.

After two days of qualifying, Mushtare, the only bowler in history to have two certified 900 series, has some work to do to reach his goal. For his first 12 games, Mushtare has totaled 2,234, an average of 186.2.

The 17-year-old right-hander had games of 164, 200, 162, 188, 197 and 177 for 1,088 on Tuesday at Don Carter Tamarac Lanes for a 1,088 total. After Monday's first round, Mushtare sat in 204th place with 1,146.

"I think when I originally set my goal that it was reachable and it still is," said Mushtare, whose two pre-bowled 900 series were officially recognized by USBC last month. "It's going to take a good score tomorrow, but with all the attention and everything it has added pressure that I really didn't need."

Throughout his first two days of competition, Mushtare has been shadowed by a camera crew from ESPN's "Outside the Lines." The segment is tentatively scheduled to air on ESPN in late July.

In order for Mushtare to advance at the Junior Gold Championships, he must have a strong showing in the final six games of qualifying Wednesday. Early projections indicate he needs to average at least 210 to have a chance to make the first cut. The top 154 males will advance to the semifinals on Thursday.

Who cares that hes not averaging the goal he set, but he is averaging higher than alot of people down.  hes 204th out of what, a 1,000.  To me that is pretty damn good considering he has never bowled on sports conditions.  we need to forget about this kid, atleast he was able to go down there, and try.

its been proven he has bowled on sport.

I have tried to stay away from the Mush threads, but now I guess I gotta chime in.

I agree with DP3's early statement of how most of our BR membership would do on JOG conditions.

My points are as follows:

1. Just because you have shot (or claimed to have shot) 900 does not mean that you're a bowling god and you will average 250 on any condition and win each event you bowl for the rest of your life.  Why are we expecting this to happen?

2. Even if he was cheating, the kid knows what the bowling world's opinion is.  It took some serious guts to show up and bowl.  How do you think you would do if you entered an event where you knew that every other competitor thought you were a useless turd?  If you say it wouldn't bother you...you're a stone cold liar.

3. I have to agree with smash's outlook on all of this.  Which is basically...don't open you're mouth until you've been there and succeeded.  Ever walk a mile in another man's (or boy's in this case) shoes?

I'm not saying Mush is legit....but I'm also not calling him a liar or a cheat.  I wasn't there to see any of his series shot, so I cannot pass judgement.

Consider this:

Make a name for yourself however possible.
Practice and get coached to get decent.
Get out there and bowl.

This kid seems kind of smart to me.  Especially with the amount of time that people spend talking about him.

Thank you finally some people with brains posting.

House shot= who cares
tournament shot = being a shot maker

Just because someone has done something once or even a few times does not make them the world every day. His dose of reality has now hit, but i think way too many of you all take it a bit far. I guess the 900 realm is not that big a deal to me as most. Until the game unifys and puts real restrictions on lane patterns scores are primarily a joke. Patterns like the USBC and the US open are what patterns should be like. I guess I thought this kid may average about 185-190 as his experience on sport patterns is very limited.

P.S. - Don't blame the player, blame the game!!!

Counting cards is considered cheating by the casino's in las vegas. But is it really cheating?

Putting down a wall isn't cheating by the USBC, but it does help the chances. I still believe the odds of him doing it legit are most definantly against him.

If putting down a wall isn't cheating, and you get 900 on a wall, then you got 900.  Ta da!

Listen anyone with common sense can tell when something like shooting pre bowled 900's is a bunch of BS.

What really sucks about this whole thing is the USBC approving this garbage to begin with.

I hear a bunch of comments like at least he had the guts to show up.  Of course he was going to show up he had cameras filming him.  He's going to make a bunch of money from these 900's.

This kid is a disgrace to the bwling world because it's so obvious that he cheated.  I can see a 300 but not 900.  Now add two of them.  Come on how can you guys even defend this guy at all.  It's a joke!

The kid is an above average bowler, nothing more, nothing less.  He is not a super star and no matter how walled the shot at his home house is he never shot 5 900 series.  One could engineer the easies shot in history and have the easiest carrying pins, and still not shoot 900 five times.  Once, fine, even twice could be done over the course of a career, but five times and two sanctioned in such a short period of time, no way.

186 at JOG is pretty good and being in 200th or so isn't bad considering its out of 1000 or so.  Leave the story be, don't give the 900s any credit, and wait and see if he gets better and starts to bowl some real competition.

I am not defending him.  I am just saying that if he worked the system (which is apparently very easy to work) and made a name for himself, that is pretty funny.

The cloud of suspicion will always follow Mushtare because he pre-bowled the 900's. He will ALWAYS have to defend himself because of the lack of witnesses to his "historic" feats.

After yesterday, he's no longer in 204th place, but now sitting in 281st position.  About 130 bowlers ahead of him to make the cut.

Who cares if he can beat half this board?  Half this board hasn't claimed multiple 900s and the ability to predict taps.  Statistically he's done the nearly impossible and the very improbable.  He deserves no credit in just bowling this event, he's SUPPOSED to bowl if he's going to accept two 900 rings.  And with his current resume, he's SUPPOSED to make the cut.  Anything less is a complete failure.

At least that's the way this messkin sees it.

I find it funny so many of You defending this Kid saying 200th place is not bad(actually now 281)...Remember a third of these kids are 13-15 years old....Mushtare is almost 18....Only reason the USBC approved His 900's is becaused He hired an attorney & since usbc rules require no witness's the usbc had to approve....Mushtare has dug His own grave & every time He bowls He just adds another nail to His coffin

This is my take on this entire situation.

I can't prove and noone else but him and God whether he actually got the 900's truly, but i bowl with people who only have 1 300 and they are coached by brand staff members.

When you say that you accomplish a feat of bowling 6 perfect games you're supposed to be able to back it up. Just look @ the girls of making the band, sure they can sing on TV but until they actually get out there and perform when it REALLY COUNTS it means nothing. It looks like Mr. Mushtare is crash and burning. The pressure thing is A LOAD OF CRAP!! If you complain about pressure, you have no business doing what you're doing. Pressure and seeing if you can pull thru is what makes sports or whatever activity you're doing fun, but sayin you dont need the added pressure of being under a magnifying glass is bull. Get the magnifying glass from off of you by showing who you are and you got skills.

To all of you all who say at least he went out there and tried, i agree good for him for trying but you're missing the silver lining and noone has mentioned it yet.....

Here it is: If he hadn't showed up what do u think people would be saying? He had to save some type of face so of course he's gonna show up, plus he has cameras following him, and he's supposed to be having some type of deal with one of these companies. IDK for sure, jus heard about it.

In the end if his 900 were lies it'll come to light, besides in my house if you pre-bowl they don't count!! You gotta get em in league. If you can shoot 300 in league then we can talk.
