more league issues
« on: January 14, 2016, 03:24:53 PM »
This is the league that dropped from 10 teams to 8 that we had a problem with...NOW..on week 2 of the 2nd half they have 2 teams scheduled to bowl against 2 vacant teams. I said before we started bowling how is that possible and why arent the 2 teams that are bowling vacants bowling vs each other? The woman (amf) behind the counter said "we cant make changes to league secretary, it will screw up the system." So I suggested that they just keep the scores of team A on lane 21 and the scores of team B on lane 16 (both bowling vs vacant) and at the end of the night add their scores up and see who wins and who loses.....NOPE...cant do that either was the answer I got. So now...2 teams beat the vacants both 11-0 and now for the rest of the season no other teams bowl the vacant teams...They have the 2 vacant teams bowling each other every week. They just cant drop the vacant teams without screwing up the schedule on league secretary they said. How is this fair to every other team in the league? I never heard of such a thing and you vcant even make this stuff up!

They dont know how to use league secretary , they could have changed it and should have done it before the start of the second half. I believe it involves renumbering the teams or they can manually pair. Teams.

As for taking the scores from the teams bowlng on different lanes, no you cant do that. Its against the rules

You could have informed the house that USBC rules do not allow two teams to bowl vacant. Oh sorry, you don't agree with the need for USBC rules. My bad.

Enjoy that unsanctioned league next year.

We will, Its 32 teams...The usbc has done next to nothing. Why do you think the memberships are down? Leagues are going non sanctioned, scores are kept on league secy...The leagues have their own rules that everyone has to follow.

I don't know of a single league that isn't sanctioned in any of the four houses where I bowl. There are probably some in my area, but I have seen them.

And just in case you are curious, yea, most of the league bowlers in my leagues will be bitching about the $5 too.

Nobody is bitching over 5 bucks....Its what are they doing with the money? 5 bucks time 1 million bowlers is 5 million bucks, not 5 bucks. What are their salaries? At this point is like giving to a donation where 90 cents out of every dollar goes everywhere except where its supposed to.

I'll quit league bowling before I ever bowl in an unsanctioned league again.  Making up rules as the league goes on, no say in the weekly cost, pennies on the dollar put into the prize fund, calling up the members and telling them league is cancelled because the house just scheduled a large birthday party, and on and on.
I agree the USBC needs to be more responsible and accountable, but I'll gladly pay the extra $5 to keep sanity in league play.

the main reason to sanction, in my opinion, is the bonding.  In a non-sanctioned league there is no protection from USBC if the treasurer runs off with the prize fund.  You can still call the police but no money is necessarily returned.  If you are sanctioned then USBC gives you back the money.  You still need to file a police report but at least some of the money is returned soon after reporting it.

A center can not cancel your league do to another thing unless the league agrees to it.  They have a contract with the leagues.

As far as bonding goes...the house can be treasurer. The prize money is held in their account or a joint account is opened that needs 2 signatures...one from league president, one from house manager.

I question why you even went to the front counter to resolve the vacancy issue.  Isn't this a league matter and not a center matter?  If the league wants to eliminate the 2 vacant teams from the league, they need to sit down with the center and figure out what needs to be done.  The person at the counter has no control over that.

The house acting as the treasurer/bank doesn't necessarily protect the league from loss of funds. It would depend on just exactly how the account is set up etc.

A example I believe was posted a few years back, where the house acted as the treasurer/bank . The house closed suddenly and the league lost the money.

So some type of bonding/protection needs to be in place to protect the league.

Pure idiocracy.  Systems should not make us stupid.  Is everyone involved in the league management so opposed to the littlest amount of extra work to do something.  You know that at one time bowlers had to do all the scorekeeping and league standings without a computer or calculator?  The basic scoring hasn't changed to make that any more difficult.

Once again, I will say that you need to vote in better leadership.  lazy no-accounts leading league will lead to all these problems. It doesn't take someone clever or well spoken - just someone who will care about doing the work.  Maybe that someone is you.

The house enters the league secy info.

Then the league secretary needs to give the house the new information.  The house only puts out what the league tells them.
