My thoughts on todays experience in Akron...
« on: February 09, 2005, 11:58:50 AM »
I was a wreck to begin with. I had not bowled a PBA event in almost 2 yrs. It took me 2 games to settle down, nerves, excitement, anxiousness, all rolled into one don't make a good combination. I started with the Xception, playing up 5. With my fast feet, I'd either strike, or blow it by the headpin leaving some really ugly wash outs. in 10th frame of game 2, i switch to arsenal aangular, struck out to shoot a 137!!That put me at -120 after 2. Started game 3 with the first 5, then threw 4 out of 5 splits to end the game(188). went to the crash, rolled 199-198-206, all 3 games left a 2-8-10 or 2-4-8-10 in the 10th frame. Went to the Freak A Zoid in game 7, shot a 221 with 1 open. Game 8 same ball, 2 opens(1 missed spare, one split) 224. game 9, CLEAN GAME 223!! in total iwas was -129 after 3, then went +71 the last 6 to finish -58!

Started out playing up 5, was able to move it in to around 7, and finally up 10 out to 5 the last 3 games. I was really supprised on how the shot really never broke down. I was definatly a learning experience. I had the plaesure of bowling with Liz Johnson, and Patrick Dombrowski. They are 2 great bowlers, and great people. I got to meet a few people that I only knew by username, and that was nice too.

Feel free to ask me questions if you want to know more.

Sorry but whn you come on hear all the time thumping your chest about what wunderufl scores you schot and how high your averaging you gotta expect some backlash when your fail.

I personnly don’t have a problem with your performance and the fact your name was out there is courageous.

Hey, I was going to try it, but I chickened out at the $300 entry. I know I've got to try it sometime, maybe at Buckeye in the regional. I know I've been humbled at ABCs, so I will go in a bit timid. Like others have posted, you can't expect results right away, so it is an expensive learning experience.

I applaud your efforts, and the fact you can hold your head up despite the criticism.  Good luck in the future, I'm sure you'll do better next time!

Steve-  Great bowling buddy.  It is better than I can do and having been center stage doing other sports I can tell you no matter how many times you have been there the bigger the venue or situation you always have butterfly's.  It is natural next time will be better.  Ignore guys that think they have to take shots at you.  Small ego which is usually because of Small well you know the rest.

I'd also like to know why such a slow start.  It's not like league where you might get a half a dozen balls, you had plenty of practice to get lined up.  It didn't have anything to do with them being tight and opening up, E pattern is already open.  Didn't Lizi shoot 800 out of the box and several others right there close?

Criticism is good and I'm sure you are really disappointed at your performance.  I do think you've handled it well and have kept a positive attitude.  You didn't quit and hung in there getting whatever you could.  For that I applaud you.

Now the criticism.
There are maybe 50 to 100 people in the world with a 240+ average.  Nothing is easier then patten E when it comes to tour shots.  Just wait and see what the exempt guys do to it today.  I really thought that you'd be in the 220's at least.

Something is really out of whack here.  Where do you feel your "true" average is?  Do you still think of yourself as a 240 average bowler?  With your house being only 8 lanes, I'm sure that you have some control on the way they lay down the shot.  Why do you not insist that they run something a little tougher?  Per lane, this must be the easiest house in the country.  24+ 300's this year in an 8 lane house?  Insane!  The owners are only cheating you and giving you a false since of your ablities as a bowler.  Had they have put something tougher out, maybe you would have been a little sharper yesterday.

I'm just being critical to offset the positive responses you've received.

If this was American Idol, how many notes do you think you'd get out before Simon ripped you?

I know I'm tougher than most and this is something that I've had to face myself, I bowled really bad in a regional and had to face the reality that I wasn't as good as I thought I was.  My confidence was high because I was bowling well on house shots but when I bowled on pattern C, as a lefty, they never opened up for me and I wasn't able to hit a target that small.

Steve, don't give up, just get out of you house and bowl other condtions and learn to play the tough ones and you'll be fine.

Welcome to reality, it's never easy to face, but it will help you out in the long run.

I just wanted to say bravo for your efforts Steve.  Don't get discouraged, keep it up and make us proud.  You did better than the majority of us could ever do.  Congrats!

I'm curios why you feel that you had such a drop off in performance on the easiest PBA pattern compared to your league?

And I'm classless ?! Is this your version of 'passive-aggressive' Jeff ? [rolleyes]

Steve, let me be the first to say, nice showing yesterday! You averaged 193 on a PBA tour pro shot , to which I'm sure you're not TOTALLY familiar with! (regardless of whether it was pattern E or not!)  You average 240 something at 'your' house, ....but I think that's a nice showing regardless. It shows you 3 things....number 1, you're a great bowler, who is very consistent, 2, your house must have a nice wall (not a slam, just a fact)number 3, shows you how tough the pba conditions 'can' be.  More exposure to them can only make you better.

Like others have said...YOU WENT and gave it a rip, and took it like a man, and in your'e own words,

Hey, I tried, I sucked, But i learned. I didn't quit, and never will.

  Atta boy!!

Great show Rev-o!

Encino-

Not being trivial.  Trying to show somebody that has always loved running people down and and loves to portray themselves as "god" like that nobody is perfect as I am not either.  Some people love to kick others when they are down.  I guess it makes themselves feel better for how sad they are.  So Encino good use of the dictionary buddy you proved me wrong and I am sure feeling very Liquid tension for doing so.  Good day everyone.

Finished 55th.  Big dropoff in average from top 10.

Liz Johnson averaged 206.  If she started with an 800 that is quite a dropoff.

A shot straight up 8 is sort of her wheelhouse.

I"m sure if he bowled on this pattern again he'd be over 220.  I have a friend that is usually around 220 here in this area.

Went and embarrassed himself on pattern E.  Next week he went to pattern C and I drilled some stuff for him and he was in 6th till last two games of first two blocks.

Balls and drillings can really make a big difference particularly if one bowls in leagues on blended area condition lanes!

I guess I was right so far, they're killing it.  There are several Lefties at the bottom which I'm a little shocked about.  That pattern should pay right into Scroggins game.  It's early, but it looks like they'll murder this shot.   Way too easy for PBA bowlers.

WOW...You people are out looking to start something! No shocker there.

I asked an honest question with the hope that WE could discuss what Steve needs to do in the future. I have experienced A LOT of success and I'm willing to offer some help and if there isn't a better opportunity to do so then when is there?

last time I looked, I complimented Steve, yes ?  And NO Jeff, ...you're reply DOES come across a bit crass...but if you didn't mean it that way...fair enough.

Yet there are TOO MANY people out here like JEFFREVS and CARD79 ready to turn the subject of these threads into worthless garbage...Sad

I'm not going to speak for Andy, he can handle himself, however,...all I did was compliment Steve and ....you're right I assumed you were being a smarta-$$, so I'm wrong there....so what....no big deal....but ....worthless garbage? I replied to Steve and complimented him ...what did you do ?   I wrote nothing worthless here....boy are you sensitive Jeff!

Good luck in the future Steve I'm sure that jeffrevs can offer you some valuable advice for the your next PBA event... LOL

You have THE MOST un-canny way of putting words in peoples mouths!!!
Where in the hell did I say I would give Steve advice OR offered advice?!?!?!? Please show me Jeff!  All I did was compliment him...where do you come up with this stuff ?
What color is the sky in your world ? LOL

I don't know what Steve's equipment situation was, but I do know enough to say with reasonable certainty that if the equipment layout works on a house shot (great wall or little curb), it WON'T work on PBA conditions.

That could also be part of the issue...

Mumzie, good point....

the way people talk here though...you'd think pattern E actually IS a house shot ?!?  Maybe for the pros it is.....however.....

Not for us mortals,....you've got to give Steve the nod for going and getting his a$ $ kicked,(no offense Rev-o!)  and coming away saying...I sucked, and I learned....you just have to admire that ! People knocking him or making remarks...just doesn't make sense to me ....

Remember when Nicanor bowled in the US Open a few years ago ?  He had a terrible time, but he loved it just the same....HE DID IT !

Steve has never called himself a pro, etc, etc.....he knows he bowls on the great wall of china, he'll tell you himself...but he went out and faced the PBA....gotta give it to him regardless...

I just don't understand people knocking him......
