My thoughts on todays experience in Akron...
« on: February 09, 2005, 11:58:50 AM »
I was a wreck to begin with. I had not bowled a PBA event in almost 2 yrs. It took me 2 games to settle down, nerves, excitement, anxiousness, all rolled into one don't make a good combination. I started with the Xception, playing up 5. With my fast feet, I'd either strike, or blow it by the headpin leaving some really ugly wash outs. in 10th frame of game 2, i switch to arsenal aangular, struck out to shoot a 137!!That put me at -120 after 2. Started game 3 with the first 5, then threw 4 out of 5 splits to end the game(188). went to the crash, rolled 199-198-206, all 3 games left a 2-8-10 or 2-4-8-10 in the 10th frame. Went to the Freak A Zoid in game 7, shot a 221 with 1 open. Game 8 same ball, 2 opens(1 missed spare, one split) 224. game 9, CLEAN GAME 223!! in total iwas was -129 after 3, then went +71 the last 6 to finish -58!

Started out playing up 5, was able to move it in to around 7, and finally up 10 out to 5 the last 3 games. I was really supprised on how the shot really never broke down. I was definatly a learning experience. I had the plaesure of bowling with Liz Johnson, and Patrick Dombrowski. They are 2 great bowlers, and great people. I got to meet a few people that I only knew by username, and that was nice too.

Feel free to ask me questions if you want to know more.

nevermind my post on the "going to Akron" one.  You answered it all.  At least you sound positive about the situation.  Keep on posting and good luck in future events.

Yea rev-o, like everyone else said, dont worry about it! Its better to have gone, and done badly and learned, then to have not had the balls to go at all and not have the experience!!

On that type of shot, it's still some fine bowling.

Heck, I'm terrified of looking like a complete dope in the house-shot pro ams, much less bowling on a true PBA condition.

Great job!

Even though it's been said a bunch already, I'll say it again...good job today.  Even though you didn't tear it up, you got out there and hopefully you came away with something.

Bagger says guys like you are what's wrong with bowling, well I think you're attitude of "I tried, I failed, I learned so I shall try again" is exactly what bowling needs.

Hopefully you can come up with ways to help bowling instead of telling everyone what is wrong with bowling.

I just posted this on the other thread:

REV_o - I'm jealous. You got to attempt what I've wanted to do all year. But I KNOW I'd embarrass myself right now.

I think that the fact that you came back from that horrendous hole you dug for yourself says that you got what it takes. Attempting to compete at any level higher than your comfort zone is a series of baby steps. Having immediate success is usually bad news.

I'm spending the next 2 years working on my game, then I'll be old enough to bowl with the seniors. I imagine I'm gonna get creamed there, too - just not quite so bad.

Congrats ! You did, as it has been said, what most of us will never be able ( or have the 'balls" todo) and no matter what the out come, you have memories that can and will never be taken awak. I , for one, tip my hat to you and just wish I had the 'balls' and the talent to do what you did, no matter what the out come..

Once again, CONGRATS !!!!!

my 2 cents are up

Steve,
Congrats on the great effort and for not getting discouraged.  I know how you feel about sucking.  All of us who have bowled on those patterns in regionals, etc have sucked at one time or another.  At one of my first regionals, I had to privilage of crossing with George Pappas and it was a very long and frustating day for me.  I finished minus a lot.  After we we done and talking about it, George told me "not to worry about it, we've all been there."  Comments like that make it a lot easier to keep going back.  Every time I bowl on any of the PBA patterns I learn a little more about how to play them, and I get more comfortable on them.  Keep on tryig and don't let those who haven't been there gret you down.  We learn and get better by trying again, and again, and again.  Just don't give up.

Hey Steve
I will repeat what I said in my E-mail just getting there is an honor anyone on this board would die for. You did your best for the time and conditions which is what we all would expect. If the BR gang want to Monday morning quarterback let them go to Eagles.
If You ever get to SJ the lunch & bowling are on me.

Let me add my voice to the well dones. Think there were a hell of a lot of us checking the score updates to see how ya were getting on, so from one of Ballreviews European contingent, good show, and glad it all picked up once the nerves were gone. Just means that next time you will be better off for having this experience.
