Nationals - If you had one ball ....
« on: February 05, 2004, 06:40:48 PM »
Hey everyone.  Here's the situation.  You are ready to head to Reno this year, but only have room for a plastic spare ball and one other ball (this is sort of realistic since a double bag is all the airlines will allow you to bring and you need the other luggage for clothes, etc).  Anyway, you have a choice of picking out any one single ball to bring along with you for the tournament (assume you have access to any NIB ball... from distant past through current releases... and would get it punched up before leaving).  Which ball would you choose, what layout would you choose, and what part of the lane would you tentatively play?

I would take a dry lane ball, any, and have it drilled for semi-late skid/snap, like, pin over ring, cg in palm (my favorite drilling ) that way if they were dry, I would play deeper, if they were wet I could launch that beast down and in at 30mph! (can you say Mika???)

I'd take any real medium oil ball, drill it up for a controllable mid lane read with a good backend.  That way I could adjust for the extremes.

Don't forget BK, you'd have to loft it.

I would drill up a 15# Black Vendetta, 4 x 4, and leave it in box surface which is a matte semi-dull. This ball has the best surface and can be polished or dulled very easy,..gives me the total package in one ball...

Yeah, I forgot.  You and Jake should have a lofting contest, those are always interesting, since no one at the Palace pays attention.

Well if we were talking about my arsenal in general I would say I would take my apex addiction.  It is drilled pretty weak and it reads the midlane very very well.  I think your best bet there is something that will really read the midlane and not be too jumpy.  Talking every ball every in history dang that is tough.  Shoot ok I would take a yellow dot with 1/2 once of side weight.  LMAO

I'd take my Command Zone ARC, along with a bottle each of Liquid Sandpaper and Renew-It, and a full array of ScotchBrite pads.

For me, it would be the Golden Nugget with a 2"-3" pin drilled with the Pin beside and at top edge of ring finger and CG 7/8" out from grip line and no weight hole. Maybe not for others, but for me, it is one of the most versatile and hard hitting (sorry Jabroni ) balls I have ever had.

Some nice ideas...  stronger pearls and/or particle pearls seem to be choice so far...  Generally for me, anything with more than a mild "mid-lane read" ends up running high and leaving interesting splits.  My personal favorite split is leaving the 3,4,6,7,9,10.....  of course after which you always need to shoot for chopping out he 6,9

For me, I generally do best with medium to high RG and high differential equipment layed out with pin in a strong position (3-4" from PAP) and the cg in the palm.  Although it may not be the most controlable layout, it gives me good length and backend.  Possibly a little lower rg (better read) and a little less backend may make the ball a little more controlled... never a bad idea on a tougher shot.

Keep the "hypothetical" suggestions rolling in... I may be looking for a new ball!

Thats easy, I would take an Inferno drilled stacked, since that will cover almost any condition, and my xxxl since it's as good as any strike ball on dry lanes.
