new USBC dress code
« on: April 06, 2007, 03:53:54 AM »
Before you think this is a crazy idea, what if there was a dress code that was similar to what most local tournaments have but mabey not quite as strict as the PBA.

Men would have to wear slacks (that would be PBA rules) but would also be allowed to wear nice cotton or polyestor pants. No jeans, sweats and definitly no shorts allowed.

Shirts must have a collar on it tucked in unless a button down shirt which does not require being tucked in. Tshirts may be worn but must not have any designs on them unless bowling attire.

Must wear a belt, no hats of any kind. Hair must be groomed if you have hair.

What do you think? If your in any sanctioned league or tournament by USBC, you must follow these new rules

no but you see basketball players in organized teams looking like teams, some of the crap bowlers wear to league is really not worthy of wearing around the house doing the lawn

bad image perpetrated by the bad clothes some bowlers wear

Another sign of the times.

People use to care what they looked like when they were in public.

They would dress up to go to church, a dance, clubbing, a sporting event, etc.

Now it almost seems to be a race of who can look like a bum.

How tough would it be to take another set of clothes with you on bowling night and change?

Common sense would go a long way. Whats offensive to me might not be to you.

As long as your not in rags I dont care much. But I see people wearing what what I would call rags.

Shorts int he winter just looks stupid and what happens if you get stuck outside for some reason?

It will never happen. They would lose tons of bowlers. Here in TX its short weather year round and alot of guys never wear slacks when they bowl.

If they did this, league bowling would suffer more and the way it is now, they can't afford to lose anyone else for any reason..

On a personal note, I see no reason for a rule like this in league play..

well as much as i would like to see a return to a day when a team looked like a team, it wont happen, so there really is no need for a rule to be made I agree with that, but it would be nice to see some sort of "dress code" appropriate for the area

This idea is not very popular so far

I think it would create a source of discipline. I like to dress up for bowling. I wear slacks and most the time a decent golf or botton down type shirt. I am guilty of not tucking the golf shirts in though, but I would if I had to, like my office.

honestly i think if you started this in junior leagues you could get it to carry forward

all high school squads have a dress code, if high school bowling as the fastest growing sprot can do it, why cant leagues migrate that way

Just how sloppy do these people look to where you want to
enforce a dress code????  Are the ladies all dressed like strippers
and do the men bowlers belong to the Hell's Angels???

It's just league bowling

Now THERE'S an idea, this guy here is THINKIN'!  I'd join that league!

Mr. Lebowski, this is Bill Salnicker with the Southern Cal Bowling League, and I just got a, an informal report, that a member of your team, uh, Walter Sobchak, drew a firearm during league play. If this is true of course, it contravenes a number of the league's by-laws, and article 27 of the league...

No shorts, in SW Florida, where it's 85+ degrees 8 months out of the year? There'd be no bowlers in any league. Here, nearly everyone wears shorts bowling, year-round.

Noble idea, but it won't go over, mostly  because bowling is more recreational for many instead of purely competitive. Other sports aren't really comparable because you have to wear other sports' equipment in order to actually perform the task (i.e., baseball uniforms protect against abrasions and keep regular clothes from getting torn, basketball uniforms deal with larger amounts of sweat and allow especially free movement).

Golf requires certain attire at many golf courses, but again, you're dealing with a wealthier demographic in that sport.

I would, however, like to see people use some common sense. There's a woman on my league that literally bowls in what many women and men wear as pajamas -- a torn up, tattered t-shirt with the neck stretched out, and fuzzy flannel pants. She looks like a tramp.

Good point!

Which leads me to the other USBC rule proposal!

No drinking alcohol or smoking during any USBC league or tournament play

My dream league!
