No more ABC and WIBC for us
« on: October 25, 2003, 02:57:55 AM »

Looks like ABC/WIBC will not be sanctioning our bowling as of August, 2004.
Canadian Tenpin Federation.

There was no discussion to us bowlers at all.

I'll have to buy ABC membership if I bowls the ABC Nationals in 2005.

Where did this come from? Is there any other websites where I can get some more info on this?

My apologies, I just realized it was for BC only. Still, why/when did they decide to do this? I hope it never happens out east.......

Now I am really confused! I just browsed that page you linked to again, which is the BC page, but it also talks about Ontario. Is this or isn't this applying to all of Canada? I guess I need to learn how to read better......

Jeff,

I understand it's all Canada.

Apparently Quebec have their own and was never sanctioned by ABC/WIBC. Looks like we all have to join them now.

We will have our own local chapters though.

I'm shocked too.

We have a very small population and should stay attached to the U.S.

I had planned on going to the ABC tournament at some point in my life, but I guess that has been complicated somewhat by this turn of events.
How much are ABC memberships anyways?

This was talked about at the ABC convention in Billings. There were representatives from the Canadian Federation at that convention. This I think all goes back to the Olympic stuff and the eventual forming of the USBC. Each country will have their own national bowling association. Never heard how this affected participation in the Nationals. I guess that would depend on if they honor the averages, but this would only be an issue if you had a lower average. You should be able to sanction at the event in the regular division. I know bowlers here that the Nationals is all they bowl and have no book average.

ABC's vice president "Jim Dar Woon" bowls with me on on Thursday nights. He told me that ABC Nationals in Reno next year will still be OK as this year's ABC membership covers.

After 2004, all Canadians will have to buy additional ABC membership if we wants to bowl ABC Nationals. Just feels that it's a unnecessary expense.

I just got to thinking (something almost unheard of for me ) and it occurred to me some of the larger tournaments for the Junior bowlers are Yaba tournaments like Pepsi. Will they still be accepting entries from the new CTF sanctioned bowlers or do you think they would just do away with it all completely?

I personally am done with Pepsi, etc. but I think it would be a devastating blow to the whole Junior tournaments scene because it is my experience that the CTF doesn't do a very good job at running their national championships/tournaments (at least the past few years in Ontario they haven't).

I suppose they'll have to buy the appropriate membership to participate.
Consolation is, ABC/WIBC and YABA will recognise our averages.
