No more pre-bowling awards!!!
« on: August 04, 2006, 06:26:57 AM »
Thank you USBC. No more 900's for the Mushman. I'll bet anyone on this site that mushtare will never have another 900 for the rest of his life.

In our league one of the league officials has to be there or you can't pre-bowl. They actually keep the score and attach a print out from the desk.

I've shot a couple of my honor scores in prebowl or makeup on conditions that are much worse than the normal house shot and I want them to count in my total. If they don't want to give rings or whatever who cares but I worked just as hard if not harder for the two honor scores during prebowl.

That's so dumb. They need to get rid of Pre/Post bowling all together not just the Honor Score parts...

Unopposed pre or post bowled honor scores shouldn't count anyway . .  Like somebody else said somewhere, just let Tiger pre play some of his tournaments, and see if somebody doesn't scream about that.

Fluff E,

Of course it is about Mushtare. If he had not made the claims of 900 this rule for awards would still be in effect. Again the stupidity of one ruins it for the rest!

Golf is not Bowling!(thank goodness) And I think if they don't give awards for pre-bowling (which shouldn't matter unless it's a money or sport league) then they can reduce the membership price since they wont give out so many awards.

The following was posted on bowl.com by F. Britt:

Actually, all the talk here about LR6 apparently convinced the USBC board that some action was necessary, and the other discussions about such awards (Mushtare, etc) here, and in virtualy every other forum/media populated by our membership, convinced them the membership was demanding action before next Spring.

A reading of Section E (11) and E(15) of the national bylaws gives the board that authority, as I read it, subject to delegate ratification.  That ensures the proposed change (LR6) will be on the agenda in Nashville,

Alright, i have no problem with them getting rid of Honor awards for pre-bowls, but i am a 16 year old kid who is very active in boy scouts. I need pre-bowling. I go camping a lot, and i dont want to go into a game without scores that i actually bowled. Hell, at my house, its harder sometimes during pre-bowling. There is all the carry down that stops a reaction. So yea, i really dont care about the honor awards though, and this comes from someone that has a pre-bowled 298 ring. I mean yea it was in my 5th game on the pair, but i know things would have been different with more people on the pair and other things like that. But, in all seriousness, pre-bowling has to stay. You all are going to say, its your fault for not bowling, well i do it to bring service back to the community, so yea, i do believe that prebowling should be allowed, if the lanes are either untouched or oiled to the same condiction as the other league lanes that night. Not oiled to your likeing cough(Mushtare)cough.

As stated elsewhere, pre-bowling is still allowed but there will be no honor awards for any unopposed pre-bowling.  Here is a post from bowl.com that addresses that:

quote:
I do not believe the national board had any other motive than what the News Story on the home page stated:  They took this action to "protect the credibility of the sport and the USBC awards program".

As I observed in another post, the Mushtare awards brought this matter much wider attention than just in these forums.  That including national exposure on ESPN, other bowling releated websites, newspapers, magazines, etc.

I pointed out, in several posts here, that USBC had little choice but to make the awards under the  (in my opinion) bad rules, and we needed to fix those rules.

The USBC board obviously felt they had to act, and I have no reason to believe that action was for other than the reason(s) stated.

In response to Geek's remarks, this action by the board, authorized by the USBC bylaws is temporary in nature and will be in effect until March, when it must be placed before the delegates for ratification, and the Q&A after the news story made that point clearly.

If the board is smart, and I believe they certainly are as individuals, they will make an concentrated effort  to build a consensus among the national delegates and membership to ratify this action and get the entire matter permanently resolved in Nashville.

I would expect to see the matter persued via E-Connection and US Bowler, through e-mail to associations, and possibly delegates, and maybe even (gasp!) here.  I would certainly expect to also see some more efforts in Nashville, at that convention, prior to the legislative session there in terms of education efforts, information, etc.

Everyone should understand that, contrary to the titles of the threads here, Pre and post bowling are not "OUT" at all, and where permitted by existing rules are unchanged, including awards for such matches as long as the are bowled head-to-head.

This ruling/action by the board only applies to unopposed pre/post bowling as I understand it.

This series of events is a perfect illustration, to me at least, that the thoughts and opinions of the membership/bowling community when expressed strongly enough and persistently enough can be very effective.

We saw that with the first USBC proposal, and we are seeing it here today.

Frank Britt

Of course prebowling will stay, the adults can still do it, they're just doing away with award scores for prebowling . .

one thing im kinda confused about and maybe you can clarify is it that you just no longer get the awards, or is it that the scores arent sanctioned?

They no longer recognize them for the purposes of awards.  To say they're not sanctioned would be to ban pre-bowling altogether.

Personally, I think they should just change the rule to disallow individual pre- or post-bowling.  Get a frickin' sub, that's what they're for.  I might allow high score awards for team-based pre- or post-bowling, but definitely not for individual bowling.

I agree. If I throw a 300(and I don't have one as of yet sanctioned) duing pre or post bowl unopposed, the USBC can kiss my arse. I will go get my own ring. It's stupid to recognize scrores for averages but not recognize them for awards. I'm curious with this ruling if leagues will adopt this same thing for league awards as well.

Both teams pre- or post-bowling is not unopposed, is it?
