« on: August 04, 2006, 06:26:57 AM »
Thank you USBC. No more 900's for the Mushman. I'll bet anyone on this site that mushtare will never have another 900 for the rest of his life.

Well due too several years ago in the local association and some cheating of honor scores,  The association here adopted a rule very similar too that of the new usbc rule.  The only pre/post bowling allowed is for the team.  No indivivual can pre or post bowl.  If 2 or more members of your team are absent on the same night your team automattically forfiets.  All Honor scores shot during pre/post bowling will not count for any award.  Opposed or not.  If not done during league they do not count.

I actually do not believe USBC rules allow individual pre/post bowling, but for some reason the YABA has looked the other way for years. Apparently though the rules do not specifically prohibit it. So, even if the delegates deny USBC's desire to stop approving the awards, they should at least stop the individuals. Adult leagues do not allow this, or none I have ever seen or heard of, so youth should not either. Yes, there are times that everyone needs to pre/post bowl. Bring your team or take the blind.

With the USBC board overturning the delegates decision to table this matter, I can assure you the rule change will not pass next spring. This will be a show of muscle on the side of the local associations, even if they agree with the change. The board sealed the fate of this rule once they went against delegate opinions. After next March, pre/pot bowl awards will again count, even if the bowlers like us think it is the right thing to do. Do you really think the local associations vote the way you want. They vote the way they want and I am on a board, at time it is really sad.

One note, several years ago a rule was passed requiring a league official be present. The uproar was so loud, that the rule was ammended immediately. League officials did not want to be inconvenienced.

Then why the hell are they league officials?  There's so little reward for being president and secretary is usually more work than reward, I can't see how anyone would think that they got into office not expecting to be inconvenienced.

Good question Shelley. Most secretaries do it for the money. A large league, with even $.50 per person can add up to a decent check at the end. Presidents generally think they don't have to do anything and don't. Where in reality they are held responsible for everything that happens. That is what happened though.

My suggestion. If next year you want to see the rule for no awards when post/pre bowling unnopposed made permanent. Tell every association director you can. Maybe, just maybe, enough will listen and carry your voice back to their meeting that the rule will stand. I know the sentiment in our recent meeting was how dare USBC change a rule without our approval, we will just show them. Not a good thing for anybody.
