PBA style match play against Mushtare
« on: August 01, 2006, 01:08:38 PM »
Would you bowl Mushtare a scratch best of 7 against him? No prebowling jokes here, straight up you vs him. Oh, and you have to bring 1,000 dollars and he'll bring his. Would you gamble a grand against him. Don't mistake him for being a bad bowler because he is far from that. But are you confident you can beat him?

Where are we bowling? I live in Vegas, he lives in NY, I would say we would have to meet say in Missouri somewhere and bowl, that would be fair I think!!

If its PBA style match play with PBA patterns i'd have a shot to get him.

I'm a great shot maker, his spray shots will do him in during the 1st game.

yea what can i say, i have a problem with commitment lol. the thing is its a 65% loss, and i dont make enogh money to risk a grand on a losing percentage... but if he did win i would just say he cheated and everyone would belive me lol and pull the knigpin bowling hand in the ball return lol

We have one guy or two guys willing to take him up on league shots?

Everyone wants him on a sport shot!  Sort of like engaging a long drive champion in a narrow fairway hitting contest!  (BTW..I have heard second hand that Ryan Shafer who has worked with him for awhile says he is a pretty accurate bowler in the BOwlers Journal article(he did not say he endorsed the 900s).  Or as Fred Funk said to John Daly..."want to hit fairways for money"?

I wish there had a been a Tim Mack/ Mushtare actual match.  I personally have no idea who would have won but I think it would have been great entertainment and HIGH scoring!

BTW...I really like and was very impressed with Tim Mack after his interview.

Brian(original poster), would you bowl him on a league shot?

You should really ask, would you bowl him in his house? I see so many guys talking about this kid and how easy his house must be. Bowl him there. I've been witness to PBA players getting beat for big loot by house bowlers. All these talkers on this board and I'll bet you won't get a dozen to take that match. Bottom line.

Why bother?

You could shoot 868 for your first 3 and still be down 3-0.

No...but I'm a mid 180's bowler, unless if I lost I wouldn't have to pay him anything. Then, what the heck...

Lucky,

You have to have all the skills needed to win at golf. Just as Mushtare should have all the skills to win. Any great bowler can walk into any center on any condition on any format and score.

Oh I disagree with that!

There are shots that favor Walter Ray's A game(tight accuracy contests).  And other shots that are not so favorable to him.  The fact that he has won on his B game, and maybe C is a testament to his superiority.  Don't believe Robert Mushtare will not get better on sport shots...of course he will, how good or how much better I have no idea, championship material...??? I truly don't know.  But does anyone really want to bowl him on his A game?!  Right now?
Some do...those are the fun matches I want to see!

Only the greatest in the game can win on all conditions!
The VERY greatest.  Ie...even the incredible Tom Watson never won a PGA and I still consider his US open victory an absolute wonderful statistical anomaly!
That is why in golf when the 4 majors used to feature dramatically different conditions only 3 players have completed the professional grand slam!  The same applies in Tennis...Roger Federer no french opens along with Pete Sampras!  Absolute greats...dominated 3 majors...not 4!

All pros know this ...there are horses for courses!

REGards,

Luckylefty
PS Mike Durbin in his great book on bowling(title) talks about this quite a bit! I believe he is quite a student of the game!

I would bowl him anywhere he wanted, if he brings his $1000, I would bring mine.

This has nothing to do with him and his 900's, it has to do with what I know about my own game.

And if you really want to make it fair, 7 pairs, 7 different shots. His house pattern, my house pattern, and the 5 PBA shots, and we bowl all seven and we see who wins what. But if he's not up for that challenge, id still bowl him on his house shot, maybe I win, maybe I lose, but I'm betting on me, as I always do.
