Really early release
« on: May 19, 2009, 01:31:06 PM »
hey guys, i unfortunately have a really early release and start turning it really early. This leads to very little revs and a LOOOOOOOOOOW track lol. idk y i just can not get it later, i went to more forward pitch to let it stay on my hand longer and it helped a bit. Not squeezing it as bad. Any practice drills or ways to fix this? and is accelleration through the release bad? because when i throw my spare ball on viper at 18 mph, it hooks and my friend who's good at coaching said that that's how i should throw my strike ball, and i accelerate at the very bottom to get speed but i dont have the revs to get a regular ball to hook at that speed. sry for the long rant, just really want ideas lol thanks to everyone

I think I struggle from a slightly early release myself, but I'm not sure if I just don't have enough grip on the ball as I go into the release or if I need to make a concious effort to firm up at the point(meaning I might be relaxing my hand too early).  Sometimes it costs me revs/rotation but for the most part I'm afraid it might be holding me back from reaching my potential as far as ball speed goes.  Maybe if I get could the ball out onto the lane a little more that would change.

Also about axis rotation, the most I normally get is about 45 or 55 degrees I think because I've learned to stay behind the ball pretty well.  I recently found myself deep enough that I needed a bit more, like 70 degrees.  I had to turn my hand consciously at release point to achieve what I wanted to, but I'm not sure if that's bad as long as I don't do it early.

I was watching your video and thinking about what you are saying about your early timing. here is my 2 cents. to me you don't look as bad off as you think. to me you are worrying about too much about nada. the timing part is a tad bit on the early side. simple correction. you use a 5 step approach, so instead of starting the ball in the 2nd step, start in the 3rd step. bowling is meant to be SIMPLE. too much of this technical stuff.

my timing is lot earlier than yours but i work with what i have and use it to my advantage. i have a great coach who is a old timer(70 years old) which helps but keep it simple. dont worry bout anything else cause you will cause urself more of a problem! been there so i know!!!

hope this helps. good luck!!!
