Really early release
« on: May 19, 2009, 01:31:06 PM »
hey guys, i unfortunately have a really early release and start turning it really early. This leads to very little revs and a LOOOOOOOOOOW track lol. idk y i just can not get it later, i went to more forward pitch to let it stay on my hand longer and it helped a bit. Not squeezing it as bad. Any practice drills or ways to fix this? and is accelleration through the release bad? because when i throw my spare ball on viper at 18 mph, it hooks and my friend who's good at coaching said that that's how i should throw my strike ball, and i accelerate at the very bottom to get speed but i dont have the revs to get a regular ball to hook at that speed. sry for the long rant, just really want ideas lol thanks to everyone

Try standing closer to the line and try to feel the ball passing your slide foot ankle. Don't muscle the ball either. Try accelerating thru the ball just before you release it, not from the top of the backswing. Watch Chris Barnes on YouTube and watch how he holds and releases the ball. Don't expect miracles right away. If you get a coach you can probably accomplish more quicker.

Is your timing really late?

I would guess you need to get the ball into your swing earlier. If you use a 4 step approach be sure to have your arm/ball extended forward as the first step hits the approach.

Late timing makes you either grab ahold of the ball and pull it thru or lose the ball off your hand early.

not that bad.. the one at 35 sec looks pretty good.. hard to tell with the angle though..
with the last shot I can see that the ball is spinning an awful lot thus causing your low track..looks like you are coming around the ball a bit.

try to keep your hand behind and under the ball.. maybe a little wrist cupping to insure you are keeping a firm wrist through the swing.....practice for a while just coming straight up and through the back of the ball.. than little by little start putting some turn on the ball when you feel the ball at your ankle..

i have a wrist brace that doesnt cup it for me, but will keep me from breaking it back, do you think that will help with muscle memory? and waiting for the release?

what kind of wrist brace.?.. I would take the metal out of the palm of the brace for one..(if it has one) and put a slight bend in the back side.
I just think you need to come from under the ball a bit more instead of around it.. I don't think you need much though..
also.. be careful what you wish for. I have a high track and low tilt.. my ball reads the lane the instant it hits it.. I have to use longer pin to pap, high grit covers with a lot of rotational axis so my ball won't roll out by the time it gets to the backend..

if you just take a little of the spin out of it your ball should read the lane a little better and give you the reaction you are looking for..

Are your span and pitches the same as your spare ball? That would be the first thing I'd check.
No, you may not handle my balls. Well....maybe just for a little while.

I was watching your feet and your third step is shorter than your first step which makes me think your slowing down as you get to the line. Just speaking for myself my first step is shorter than other steps. Try taking a shorter first step and see what happens.

The only reason I ask, is because it just seems from your initial post that you're staying behind/under longer on your spare ball.

i am because i bowled at ahouse that was really really dry, and i had to go directly up the back, and i accelerate really fast on the down swing which basically i have little time to start turning it and my track is almost at the fingers when i throw spare shots.

I read a tip in another thread. If you're coming around the ball too soon or topping it altogether practice keeping your elbow close to your body throughout your swing. Also try to keep your hand with your ring finger leading the way. Make sense?
