Secretary Suspending Me - Need Help!
« on: October 30, 2009, 03:01:01 PM »
Quick story:

League Secretary, on his own, has decided to suspend me for an altercation over telling someone to pull up their pants.  He, the league secretary, has been telling other bowlers that the suspension will be either 1 year or 2 weeks depending on my reaction when he notifies me in person this coming week.

Longer story:

The bowler misses a spare and proceeds to make a scene of all scenes and blamed me for it.  He goes to the secretary telling him I did this while he was on the approach.  He addresses the issue with me and I told him that was incorrect and was backed up by the insane bowler's team captain.  I thought this was the end of it.

I take the following week off because I do not want to deal with the bowler the following week.  My team captain tells me he was badgering the league officials over the incident all evening, and even bothered my teammates on my whereabouts.

So my team captain gets a call 10days after the incident and the secretary tells him I have been suspended for a year.  But later said he over reacted and said it would be 2 weeks or a year depending on my reaction when they tell me in person.  His mind is made up even after hearing the other team captain.

How can he do this?  I dont think he can do this, at least from what I read in the USBC rule book.  I need options, opinions, or something!

HELP!

Center has no claim to the league. If its a league matter its up to the League.

The owner can''t just suspend you from a league. He doesn''t run the league and even if he did, he''d be required to follow USBC rules, which requires a league vote to take any action. I wouldn''t pay for those weeks.

The proprietor may not run the league but the proprietor can decide who is allowed in the center and when. As I said earlier, USBC will probably take the side of the bowler if the rules are not properly followed. However, USBC is not likely to ever take the side of the bowler when the bowler has a conflict with any proprietor. USBC will say that the proprietor can do just about anything, and I do mean anything.

And to get in it even further, if you're suspended by the house and not the league, the league can still charge you prize fund in order to stay in good standing with the team (presuming you do not have a plus-man roster where the subs pay) but I don't believe the house can force you to pay lineage for the weeks missed once you come back.

Either way, you need to get the USBC involved (as you have) because assuming -- that's ASSUMING -- we have gotten the actual rundown of what happened, with no details left out, the league officers are wholly out of order. Having said that, the house can do what it likes in regards to who it lets through the doors, but if the USBC finds in your favor, it will likely go to bat for you with the house.

However, if the guy who runs the house is friends with the league officers in question, you're probably not going to get any relief. He can just easily convert your "league ban" to a complete ban from the property and the USBC has no jurisdiction over that.

After reading through most of your responses in this thread KraZy it would appear that you have pissed off the lane mechanic who just happens to be a league officer and they have convinced the owner of the center that you need a cooling off period.  While I agree that they may not be following the rules the proprietor does have the every right to not allow you to bowl in his center, the fact that he is allowing you in to watch the league would suggest that the owner is acting on this at the request of his employee IMO.  I do not see the USBC pulling the centers sanction. As was said in an earlier post we have only heard your side of the story and there is most often more to the story.

Not supporting you or condemning you just my speculations.

I told the bowler in a matter of fact way to pull his pants up when he mooned half the league bending over prior to the 10th frame. Prior to his explosion both teams were enjoying a good evening of bowling

But when and how did you tell him? Pull him aside and talk man-to-man? Say something while he was on the approach? Yell it out to try to embarass him? There's right and wrong ways to do everything...as I said before, it's not always what you say, it's how (and when) you say it...

I thought I read the owner wants you suspended but you can still come and watch.  That doesn't sound like the owner unless he is just looking for your beer (or soda) money.  Hopefully you wrote the USBC headquarters already and also contacted the owner of the bowling center.  If not, then you might be sitting out a couple of weeks.

I have never seen something like this. I'll be interested in how it works out. I am in a classic league with some very classy people with a lot of knowledge. I have never seen bad deportment in this league. A few discussions about issues and lane patterns we chose to bowl on (during the sport leagues in the summer) but nothing suspending anyone. Hardly anyone drinks in our classic league!

You don't need help from anyone here.  You need to learn the rules and then
defend yourself--as far as you have to.
