So is ball reviews basically dead now?
« on: December 14, 2014, 06:10:55 AM »
Sorry for the negative post, but I've taken a bit of a break from ballreviews.  I used to login and read posts on here for at least an hour a day every day.  But that was a few years ago.  Now when I come back and look at this site, there just doesn't seem to be any traffic... I mean in the past there would be at least a page and a half of new posts in the miscellaneous forum.  Now there's MAYBE 8-10 new posts in the last 24 hours... Just wondering where everyone went.  This forum used to be one of the best bowling forums on the web, and although I still recognize a few of the old names here, most of them are gone.

If this has been discussed at length in the past then sorry once again, but as I said, I haven't really been around much the last... oh 5 years haha.

Seems like many have vacated for more modern forms of social media, such as Facebook groups and Twitter.

At least those who haven't died or just given up.

True, the site doesn't have the traffic it used to, but there has never been a lot of action on the week end.  Also I think as the game has become more equipment driven, I think the miscellaneous forum has taken a hit as a lot of people post more questions in the individual ball manufacturers forum.  Plus don't forget that the number of bowlers has been seriously declining over the years.  That also means less people interested in talking about it on the internet.

Yeah, I have noticed a bunch of facebook bowling groups popping up all over the place, heck I'm in a few of them.  And yeah, bowling has definitely been on the decline over the last... well 20 years hah.  I didn't know if this forum had upset a bunch of people driving them off, or if it was just your typical downfall that is kind of expected over time.  Just miss some of the old forum days.

It's a mix of everything.... From trolls to lost of interest to other sites. I'm in the NorCal area and I know many that I still see in tournaments and a few leagues, just stopped post completely or just lurk the site.

I hope it's not dead.  I prefer this site to the myriad of Facebook sites. I find those
sites to be less-structured, so I seldom venture in that direction.

I also disagree that Ball Reviews is "dead." I do not know what this forum was like in the "good old days," but in my short time here, I have enjoyed reading the excellent posts of so many players. I have purchased a number of products (and have not been disappointed) based solely on the recommendations of the posters on Ball Reviews. This is a good place.

I don't think its dead, but much, much less responses than before.  Heck, you can see a topic get 500 views, but only 2 people actually respond. I asked a question about one of the most popular balls that was recently released, and got several hundred views.  Guess how many responses I got.   Zero, nada, zilch...so I deleted the post. I can't believe that no one would respond to a simple question.  But if you look, that's how many of the posts are, all look, no response.  No interaction. That will lead to a slow death.

Your impatience is the kind of thing that leads to a site going dead. I suspect there are less people reading BR.com on a regular basis for many VALID reasons, not just problems with the site. Why delete a message, unless the thread has been hijacked? It mightbe just a matter of time before someone has a response or has decided to take the time and the risk to make a comment that might help you. (Risk? yes. with the number of smart asses and the number of know-it-alls we now have, any reply these days can be the target of ridicule.) Plus you might view the ball as popular or it might be popular in your area, but it MIGHT not be popular elsewhere or with the people here.

Patience is often rewarded.

I check the site every day, and while I don't think it's dead, there isn't much of interest going on any more.  A lot of topics are the same stuff over and over again, there aren't many interesting topics of discussion, so that's why most people will look but won't post.  A lot of the time, opinions or answers turn into a pissing contest between the know-it-all's, and nobody really wants to answer questions about what ball someone should get because they're all the same and there's really no right answer.  Every time I log on I'm disappointed most of the time because there's nothing interesting to talk about.
What would you be if you were attached to another object by an inclined plane, wrapped helically around an axis?

Charlest, that was the one and only time I deletd my own post.  Because no one responded after several hundred views, and being on for over a week and zero responses, I decided to just remove it.
My impatience is the kind of thing that leads to the site going dead?  I been here for years, AND I still post, both topics and responses.  I'm not be the most knowledgable person on here, and I will never claim to be, but if I can add to something, I will. If I have a question, I ask.  But I deleted my own post ONCE because no one responded, and and now I'm impatient?
My question was about my not so popular CRUX.
