Using rubbing alcohol between frames.
« on: May 05, 2008, 04:38:47 AM »
Is it legal? I thought it wasn't, but league president said it was. I know it is OK to use on your ball before and after.

Thanks

beans,

Considering you said your, now Lane#1's Secret sauce contains abrasive, it is odd that it is legal to use during competition.

Same for Reacta Shine - known to have abrasives in it.

This says the USBC doesn't know (or maybe doesn't care) what they're doing or what they're testing. Same situation for Clean & Dull and Clean & Tacky.

You can't sand a ball whether it has been in play or not.Once you throw your first ball, even if you pull a fresh ball out of your bag, no adjustments are allowed.

Here's the rule

18/2
Can abrasives be used during certified competition?

The outer surface of any bowling ball cannot be altered with an abrasive after the start of competition. This includes balls that have not yet been introduced into play.

Further, the start of competition is defined as the point the first ball is thrown by any participant for score. This would allow a bowler to alter the outer surface of a ball during practice and not be in violation of Rule 18.

So is dish detergent not necessary when using the hot water method?  Are there any negative effects to using it?  If it works better with it, would Palmolive work as well as Dawn?  Does it matter which type of liquid it is within a given brand(i.e. hand soap vs. grease removal both by Palmolive)?

I agree but it may be becasue o fthe consistency of the Sauce. Still looks like Milk and not a gritty polish..

I stand corrected and appreciate it. You never stop learning in this business. I was told that over 10 years ago and never bothered to follow up on it. This is very good to know...

The proshop where I get my gear do not sand the ball/s before put in Rejuvinator..  They think that the oil extracts better that way..

sandin just increases the surface of the ball this should increase the suirface the oil can get out on.
However using a method with which the oil is removed immediatly I see no need in increasing the surface.
