Whats you favorite ball for control?
« on: November 17, 2007, 01:54:26 PM »
What works really well for a control ball that is out on the market now? I have a NIB Weapon of mass Bias that I might use for this task but, I just want some different opinions and what work for you folks. If anyone is slightly rev dominant or rev dominant like myself that could help me greatly.

AMF Hei$t is my benchmark...smooth but strong, with decent length...900G Creature is even more even reacting, and gets even more length...

I love my dyno-thane threshold. I can play straight and never get an over under reaction. I played the same line with the ball tonight for 2 1/2 games then moved about 1-2 boards left and it finished well. Ended up shooting a 818 series scratch. If you looking for a ball thats easy to control thats got a good hook to it, I like my Awesome hook. Its drilled to roll instead of hook and the reaction on its the same and finally have to move a board to two to the left by the third game but its got a smooth hard arc to it and I love it. And its got good carry.

I really like the Anger for control when the pattern is on the heavy/long side.  If i'm on light oil the Blue Vibe has a strong controllable arc reaction that I really like.

A lot depends on how much oil:
- Blue/Green Centaur
- AMF Radar
- New Standard

my favorite control ball ever was my weapon of mass bias. that ball got me threw alot of over under shots and nasty carrydown haha. ive had two, and when they were new, i loved them to death, but for some reason, both of them died on me very quickly.

I agree on the WMB....I've seen it work wonders on many over under shots for dryer when polished...when wetter then dull...

The ball moves very smoothly and hits hard.

As to balls dying...(I hear so much of this.....)

I saw this post on Ebonite.com under Antique balls and clicked on the ONE.

This link I could not copy for some reason.

re restoring reaction...
5) My One ball does not perform as it did when it was new:
Answer: The One is shipped with a factory finish of 4000 Grit Abralon, and polished with Powerhouse Factory Finish Ball Polish. As the ball is used, the surface will be altered. Depending on what surface (Wood, Synthetic, the brand of Synthetic, Guardian, etc…) you are bowling on, the ball will start hooking earlier, thus the move to the pocket will be smoother. In order to make the reaction as it was new, you must finish your ball the same way as we do in the factory. Sand your ball with 500 Grit Abralon, 1000 Grit Abralon, 2000 Grit Abralon, 4000 Grit Abralon and shine your ball with Powerhouse factory finish. If you changed the surface at all, remember the steps that where applied so they can be repeated.

Thanks Ebonite.

I am using and loving the roll of an old Icon 2 and an Icon right now and a Reaction Roll.  I NEVER use sandpaper on particles....scotchbrite or Abralon.

For Control it's the Black Widow.  The ball is super smooth.

If you're looking for benchmark control, any ball with PowerKoil 18 solid coverstock would be a great choice.

For my game, that thing will boomerang and hook most of the entire lane.

Not a benchmark but, a true control peice. PK 18 covers hook ALOT for me and when I want control, I dont want to play alot of boards. I am looking for something very even that dosent hook a whole lot but, when it does hook it is very contiunous. It must handle various oil conditions through surface preps. Maybe I am asking for too much? I know when I had an Awesome Revs it was very close to this for me but, it lacked continuation IMO. Maybe the WMB will give me this? I am open for suggestions otherwise if it might fit my criteria.
