Who is pouring what these days ??
« on: June 17, 2010, 08:14:39 AM »
I know there have been topics on this before, but without a scorecard its hard to keep track of things.

I know Ebonite Hammer Columbia and Track are all 1 company.  Roto Grip and Storm are another.

Who pours (or is linked at this point in time to each other) ??

900Global also pours Seismic, Caffeine and Elite.
Visionary pours Visionary.
Tech-Line pours Motiv.
Brunswick pours Revolution.
Ebonite pours Dyno-Thane.
Lanemasters pours Lanemasters and Legends.
Storm pours AZO.

Actually, Dyno-Thane was absorbed by Ebonite International. Dyno-Thane balls are only being produced for the overseas market now. However, 900 Global is being run by Phil Cardinale, who oversaw Dyno-Thane thru many good years. This is the same Phil Cardinale who started and ran Track from the late 1980''s thru the early 2000''s.

No, not technically.

Phil Cardinale is either the major stockholder or THE owner of 900Global. He used to own/run Dyno-Thane (under Storm, then Columbia's "auspices"), but Ebonite bought the entire Columbia300 corporate family, as far as I know, including DT. DT now only produces balls for the inetrnational market.

Motiv is Tech-Line, it's just their ball company name.

As Jeff said, that's true in spirit if not legally.  The Dynothane brand went to Ebonite with the Columbia buyout.  The staff, for the most part, went on to form 900 Global.  That includes Phil and Eric Thomas and a number of other engineers.  They also bought the factory and capital equipment, as far as I know.

If you were a Track or Dynothane fan 10 years ago, 900 Global and AMF are the companies for you.

AMF is still in the house equipment manufacturing business.  They make pinsetters, lanes, ball returns, that sort of stuff.  AMF is not in the ball design or manufacturing they license the name to 900 Global for manufacturing bowling balls.  900 Global does not "own" AMF, they design and market balls under that name.

Bingo! +1

AMF has contracted to 900Global (as far as I understand) to design, market and manufacture AMF balls. AMF balls are to 900Global balls as Roto-Grip is to Storm, more or less. (Vague generality) So, as I see it, AMF can be taken independent of 900Global or as an adjunct to 900Global balls, when designing an arsenal. (CHeck your Funk and Wagnals for "adjunct". )

ok why is 900 global pouring storm balls? i find that to be very interesting...is it cheaper for storm to outsource this then to pour in house....does storm have a big plant or is it a small operation and cant handle producing all thier equipment?

For the true answer to that you'd have to talk to Storm and 900Global.

We can assume that Storm did not have the capacity in their production line at the time and 900Global did. I doubt if "cheaper" entered into the equation.

Not the same thing. Legends is the premium line of balls Lanemasters produces, but they are still Lanemaster balls. I think the correct analogy for Lanemasters products would be the Crown, Shield etc lines in Rotogrip products. Lanemasters has Legends, Max Performance, High Performance and Plus Performance lines. But only the Legends line is labeled accordingly.
