who wants to be a judge for the youth essay contest?
« on: October 13, 2003, 03:46:29 AM »
I have a few names of people that want to be judges but just in case anyone missed there are spots open for people who want to judge.  Also, those of you who indicated that you would like to judge should reply to me again just to make sure that I have your name on the list.  All of the essays have been turned in so its time to start reading and grading.   Essays are based on a 10 point system broken down into four 2.5 point categories for creativity, clarity, grammar and 2.5 substance.

5 essays this year.

So far the unofficial list for judges comprise Ragnar, Clump (SawMill Dave), Buzzhead, Pooter, T-Frog, Doc, Rick W. Under, Ringing10s.  If anyone else would like to judge let me know.

No problem Brian.

So far I've had quite a few judges turn in their scores and this essay contest is very close.  Not one essay is far beyond the others like last years contest.  I also found (same as last year) that the judges all have much different perceptions of what a good essay is.  Some think one essay is the best and others would rate it the worst.  Scores are all over the place.  The only scores that I think are correct are my own.  Hmmmmmm, what does this say about teachers?  Are writing classes really this subjective?

Hey Dave you can't be a judge twice no matter how much MPD you have.  I have already accepted you as Saw Mill I can't accept you as Clump.

For those that want to know, so far 8 judges have given their scores and the top 3 are less than 3 points apart with the first 2 being only 0.2 apart.  There are still 7 judges who have not turned in their scores so right now its very close and anyone could win.  To give you an idea of how close, right now there are only 4 points separating the lead and the tail.
