Anyone who grabs it at the bottom...hops up out of the shot...chicken wings it slightly...and can't carry a corner pin....what do we call that kind of hack?

Oh wait....that's the greatest that ever walked the earth...

You're obviously a multiple national titleist with perfect form....and have never missed the pocket on any condition more than a few shots.  Odd how we've probably never heard of you....

Anybody who goes 5 frames in a championship match without hitting the pocket, chosing the wrong ball to play,  walks crooked, follow through all over the place.    What do we call him?????

some of you are idiots! It doesn't matter what it looks like, it's all about being consistent. Look at kevin martin in the nba, shawn marion....they have the funniest looking shots ever but they are damn good at what they do. When you people, who think you are suppose to look like a robot open your eyes and see what really matters maybe you will have a freakin clue. What about Jason Belmote?? His approach is far from ordinary being a two-handed bowler...but i dont hear you bashing him or osku because its not perfection, but its because THEY THROW THE BALL GOOD WHICH IS ALL THAT FREAKING MATTERS!!!...get a grip.

We call him better than you.  No matter what you say he was on television and you weren't.  He has eight regional titles to his name and you don't.  That was his first time on live television.  We all know you would have been text book and buried twelve shots shoulder deep.

Shut yer pie hole.  You're bringing clouds into my sunny disposition with your overwhelming ignorance.

face it bullred, this guy is way better than you. just because you don't like how it looks doesn't mean he can't bowl. Ability to repeat shots means so much more than overall form. And if he misses the pocket who cares?? Didnt Mike Aulby have the record lowest game TV for quite awhile? I don't know what you think but IMO Aulby is a pretty good bowler and he still has bad games why is Weiss not allowed to have bad games?

C'mon guys, is no one allowed an opinion anymore?  Even if the guy throws it 10 times better than me, I can recognize when he throws it bad.  And unfortunately, he did throw it bad quite a few times, especially during the championship match.  Randy even commented about it during the earlier matches how sometimes his follow through went dead left.  You could see his trajectory through the heads and roll were very different.

I was in the Army stationed at the 120th Adjutant Generals Battalion.  I worked in a few different sections there in my 3 years there, from August 1992 through June 1995.  Cant remember if it was Bush River or Broad River but used to go to the 24 hour bowling center there to bowl because I worked the second shift for the first year or so.  So I would go after work.  Someone there mentioned Jerry's name I believe as an employee of one of Jeff Bellinger's shops.  That is where I met Randy.  Jerry, Randy, and a guy named Johnny would be there all the time so it was basically my hangout spot.

By working HARD and beating A LOT of those that LOOKED much better at the line. If we take this line of thinking, the tourney namesake wasn't the perfect picture of bowling, but he got the job done! Steven what unit were you assigned with a Fort Jackson?

I had the chance to bowl in a tournament he was in once. Funky arm swing or not, in person all I saw were a metric ton of Xs all lined up in a row.

He's also a helluva nice guy, or at least he was to me.

What I want to know is how someone can rip on Weiss for his arm swing, yet they'll forgive Mika (too much loft), Shafer (bolt upright at the foul line + fast feet), WRW (looks like he snatches straight up at release a lot of the time), Wayne Garber (too much to list), etc. If Weiss' style was that bad, plenty of people had a chance to bowl better than him last month and do something about it, but they didn't.

But Garber's style is due to injury.

It's not how, but how many..

Granted, he looked like a 160 average bowler (form wise), but you can't argue with results

Would I recommend Weiss's follow through to a student -- NO.  But I also wouldn't recommend Don Carter's style, and he was one of the best bowlers ever, and absolutely the best on the conditions of his time.  --  JohnP

Glad someone else has noticed this about Don Carter. From every angle, he was as unorthodox as they came, but because he's a legend of the sport it doesn't get talked about very much. Nevertheless, I kind of chuckle when people say one of their style influences was Don Carter. Either they're not emulating it very well, or they're just saying it to sound knowledgeable.

To answer the OP's question, simply put he won his way to the finals.
