Well...probably has to do with him being a solid player...good at repeating shots....good spare shooter...and pretty solid under pressure.  I am pretty sure you're flamebaiting here by insinuating that he must suck because he doesn't throw it textbook.

I can assure you Randy is no hack...and could walk all over you 8 days a week....just because he doesn't throw it like Tommy Jones doesn't mean he sucks.

By your reply, I guess he won with his superior skills.    But, he still looked like a THB in his finals.    All of his "gifts" in his finals helped a bit also.    Anyhow, he did good for a THB.    But, he shouldn't give up his day job though.

Did he make some mistakes? Yes. Is a "THB"? Lol, not at all. He can play.

Wow guy. This guy is better at repeating shots than you are I or almost anyone on this board and you are ripping him. So what if he throws it different? So does Osko and Belmo. And he got some breaks who cares WRW gets breaks so does Norm Duke. Are you the only guy that throws all perfect shots and never gets a break

It looked like the pressure of the day got to him. His arm swing was all over the place at times. But, when it was good, it was reeeally good. There were a couple of shots he threw that were as pure as anyone else's. He just couldn't get there enough. I don't know him but I doubt he's a hack or THB.

In search of the perfect ball reaction....

I was kind of pulling for him, but was surprised to see how far he got.  In my eyes he throws it good, but not PBA good.  He completely missed it at the bottom of his swing quite a few times and his arm swing and follow through were very inconsistent which completely changed his ball roll.  He kept his head about him and made his spares which kept him in the matches, plus he seemed to find a way to throw his best shots when they mattered most.

I have known Randy a loooong time.  When I was stationed at Fort Jackson back in the early-mid 90s, I used to visit a pro shop frequently that was run by him and Jerry Horn.  Randy has always been a solid player.  He must have been having some feel issues because I dont recall him ever following through over his left shoulder.  You can say that he is a "THB" but I can assure you, as Russell mentioned, he will hand it to you 8 days a week.

To sit there and say that based on what he "looked like" is like saying Jim Furyk must be a 20 handicapper on the golf course and should not quit his day job.

By working HARD and beating A LOT of those that LOOKED much better at the line. If we take this line of thinking, the tourney namesake wasn't the perfect picture of bowling, but he got the job done! Steven what unit were you assigned with a Fort Jackson?

By being better than the bulk of the competition throughout the week of qualifying & match play.... Repeating his shots, scoring, etc....  Didn't think it would be that hard for you to figure out....  But nothing surprises me on these boards anymore...

I was in the Army stationed at the 120th Adjutant Generals Battalion.  I worked in a few different sections there in my 3 years there, from August 1992 through June 1995.  Cant remember if it was Bush River or Broad River but used to go to the 24 hour bowling center there to bowl because I worked the second shift for the first year or so.  So I would go after work.  Someone there mentioned Jerry's name I believe as an employee of one of Jeff Bellinger's shops.  That is where I met Randy.  Jerry, Randy, and a guy named Johnny would be there all the time so it was basically my hangout spot.

What, as compared to the guy who won it?  Almost falling over on every shot.  Licks his hand and wets his sole before every shot then complains about sticking at the line.  Is that good form to you , OP?

Ah yes, it's so easy to tell everybody how the guy sucks on t.v. while you're in the La-Z-Boy with the bag of pork rinds in one hand and the PBR in the other instead of being on t.v. competing against the guy you are questioning.

It amazes me that you people rip on pros for what you see on television. Randy had a great look in practice and when not on TV during warmups was throwing the ball excellent and didn't have any of the issues with his follow through during that time either. I think nerves got him a bit on the show which is not a knock on the guy, hes a great bowler that bowled great to be in the situation he was in.
