Awesome Hook or BVP Mammoth
« on: December 27, 2006, 11:57:00 AM »
I'm trying to find a good ball for heavy oil and long sport shots. I've been researching the BVP Mammoth, and it looks like it may fit the bill. However, I've also been suggested to look at the Awesome Hook from MoRich. I've never thrown Mo before, though I've wanted to.

Can anyone share their experience with the Awesome Hook on a long sport pattern? Any comparisons are greatly welcome!

Thanks a lot everyone!

Got my oldest son a Mammoth for Christmas. I threw it a couple times to see what it would do and it hooks for me, but he can not seem to get it to turn over. But I can tell you that the ball hooks a ton...As far as the AH, I have not seen one of those, so I do nto know what to tell you. Persoanlly I have a ONSLAUGHT and it really surprised me how hard it breaks into the pocket. So if that is any indication on how the AW would hook, I would hate to try to keep it on the lanes.

BOWLING IS FUN NO MATTER WHAT YOU SCORE. BUT A 300 IS ALWAYS NICE.

STRIKE ZONE & PYRO. STAND 22 AND THROW 10 OUT TO 5 AND CRUSH THE POCKET. AT LEAST THAT IS THE PLAN OF THE NIGHT...

GOOD LUCK AND GOOD BOWLING!!!

For me and a lot of people i notice, Reactives just skid too much on the oil and dont have enough time to recover in the backend.  Particle balls for me in tons of oil makes the ball roll early and have more of a bananna shape and smooth and hook more than 10 boards more than reactives for me on heavy/soupy lanes.  I perosnally have only seen reactives work for people who have slower i mean slower ball speed.  But if i works that aweomse.  But particles are for me when it comes to heavy/soupy lanes and lots of over under.

Have you drilled up and thrown any Morich equipment for yourself yet? I just see Storm in your profile but, have noticed alot of posts in the Morich room about ball recomendations. Not a flame here, I am just curious.

For me, if you put a particle and a reactive at the same surface prep, the particle will always be sooner. Its like a car tire with studs for winter, and those without..the ones with studs (particle cover balls) have more traction and will create more friction.

With that said, I would lookt at the Seek n Destroy. I understand this was not one of your 2 choices, but may be the best option for a long heavily oiled pattern!

This "snow tire" analogy comes from Tenpinspro if not mistaken.  Give credit where credit is due....

I never took credit for it, just repeated it and honestly don't remember where I heard it from. Seeing how you like to pick on everything I say, go ahead. I am not here to fight, and if you want to be childish and poke fun all the time, go ahead! I have too many worries in life than to worry about someone criticizing me every other post.

You are facing the same dilemma as myself. I spoke with BrunsBob about the Mammoth and described to him nearly the same conditions that you mentioned. He agreed that it would be the right choice. I know that Mo makes some awesome balls, but I am going with the Mammoth. Again, I am not a Morich basher, but the BVP Mammoth will soon be in my bag. The price is fair, too.

Who's picking on "everything" you say?  If it were the case, I'd been in your azz a 'very long' time ago.  In any event, it appears I'm not the only one that has repeatedly found fault in your info, therefore I do not stand alone.  I (and I don't speak for others because they can do so on their own) find it relatively difficult to understand why you would have so many, of the same ball drilled (if I recall, asking you about the 10 GP2's you had at the time).  Also, I question the competence of your drilling skills, as the norm for your reply to the majority seeking layout help doesn't go beyond 'cover difference'.

I don't know you.  Therefore I haven't an issue with you personally.  However, I along with others who are fairly knowledgeable can read thru your BS.  Perhaps if you tried adding some humility instead of seeking what I deem as 'attention and/or popularity' contests, you'd learn a great deal.

I wish you well in your future endeavors.  Just look before you leap ...

Edit:  Apologies to fins4ever88 for the hijack.

Why don't you ask oh, about the 2 dozen people I drill for on here, and they will tell you about my drilling skills...Slop, Brook...etc...Bar5003 said straight up, I was the best ball driller he EVER had..PERIOD!

As for cover diff..uh..if you remember, like the Inertias that I had 14 of...7 different drills...2 balls was for each drill..one factory, the other dulled...so while I am simple in my cover differences, I do know my layouts as well...

Ask Del when he was in town.....

Ask Mike Judy when he was in town...

Or ask Mo Pinel, who said flat out when he was here a month ago, the span, pitches he saw that I did were some of the best fits he had seen in a while...

As for BS...when mo came to town, if I was full of it..I wouldn't be on staff..same when Mike Judy was here...he would have gotten rid of me then as well...

Come on man, this is a bit out of line dont ya think? To question Clints drilling and pro-shop skills, I guess you have never used him! I use him and have used him MANY times and will continue to do so becasue he is a VERY compitent driller with outstanding service! Bro, I am not sure if your post was out of emotion at the time but, personally attacking a man the way you did pretty much ruined your credibility in this dispute and anyone with half a brain and clearly see this. Way to go man, very professional.

I for one trust Clint 100%. He's easily one of the most reputable and knowledgeable members here at BR.com, and I value his opinion greatly.

As for my choices, I'm in the process of purchasing a Track Mean Machine for my medium-heavy oil slot. I know it has had some mixed reviews, and is not a heavy oiler that it says it is, but I love what I see from this ball on THS, and I wish to add it for at least league.

Now that I'm adding this higher end reactive, I'm mainly looking for a particle ball for the heavy oil and long patters. I've narrowed the search down to the Weapon of Mass Bias and the Seek & Destroy. I'm looking for the most controllable hook, not necessarily the most.

What are the differences between the Seek and Destroy and Weapon of Mass Bias?

The WMB should be re-named the Weapon of Mass control. Smooth, Smooth, Smooth! The S&D opens up an oily shot like no other oiler I have thrown before. Makes a good move on the backend even though the ball is early but, it is VERY continous! Both are easily controlable but, the WMB is a true control peice!
