Motiv musthaves
« on: July 18, 2015, 02:28:32 PM »
What are some must haves if you were going to put together a Motiv arsenal? I would imagine a Shock, Revolt, and Primal would be on the list, but what are the must haves? Tag Vs Panic?

Make sure you have a Venom Shock as it is a versatile benchmark ball that you need for the bag.  A Covert Revolt also is one that I would recommend as it handles medium-heavy fresh patterns well.

But if you can still find a Sigma Sting, that is one hell of a ball and love using that as my benchmark.  That Sigma core is flat out special.  I'd even say anything with the Sigma core is worth it.
Current Ball Arsenal

MOTIV Trident Odyssey
MOTIV Forge Fire

Medium-Light
MOTIV Venom Shock
MOTIV Tribal Fire

I have 3 tags and sold my Panic!

So, here is a good chance to see if bowler style, release, preferred line, etc.  is what makes the Tag vs Panic work for different bowlers.

Could VK and bowlin12xs both post styles?  Rev dominant vs speed dominant?  Up the outside or playing inside mostly?  High rotation angle vs forward rolling?  Just curious...thanks!

16mph.  26 tilt. 45-60 rotation. 350-375 revs. I didn't like ob surface on either the Tag or Panic. For me I found the Panic too smooth, and very condition specific. I played with multiple surfaces and had best luck at 500/4000 polished. But not strong enough in oil and too early on the burn. Panic was drilled 50x43/4x40 p3.
I have one tag at 4000 and other at 2000polished and they are a greatv1-2 punch and best ths balls I've ever owned. I only through once in a tourney on a 39 ft 3:1 ratio sport shot and the stronger drilled 4000 surface was money for me.

Doom, say it ain't so!

Just looking around, but can't lie, I'm impressed with their lineup. Ever since the Storm thing, I can't say I've matched up well to their stronger covers.

Primal Rage is a must, same as the Venom Shock. Those two are probably the best balls Motiv ever produced. If i have to add another one, I would say the Forza, it is so versatile! A great ball!

I'll vouch for the Primal Rage. It is one of the best  if not the best balls I have ever had. To go with it, I currently have the Octane and TAG of which I would buy neither if I had it to do over again. Both are so-so to ok at times on the conditions they are supposed to work on and bad at other times. The Rage is good all of the time on the conditions it is supposed to work on.

The next best ball under my Rage is the Thrash Frenzy of which I no longer throw since I moved up in weight. Like the Rage, it too was good all of the time on the conditions it was supposed to work on. I haven't been able to find another ball in the Motiv line-up of balls with similar specs that will do what my Thrash Frenzy did.

So, based on the responses, it looks like for a lighter oil ball, the Panic may be best if you are looking for a smooth reaction (due to high revs and/or rotation angle).  The Tag may be better if you want a little more sudden reaction.  Sound good?

Sounds good. Thinking I would try a Shock or Revolt first.
