Where did you see it? I checked Buddies and Bowling.com and they don't show it.

http://www.bowlerx.com/Motiv-Octane-Burn-Bowling-Ball-PRE-ORDER-MOTOCTANEBURN.htm

Thumbs up.  They also had the Black Widow Limited pre-order up at least two days before anybody else.  I got mine while the gettin' was good.

I will say this though about the Burn.  My son digs the stuff, but at a certain level, he has my practical brain.  I could easily see him decide to opt for something like a Redline or one of the Venoms instead.  He does have a gap in there that could be filled, so he's in the market.

Interesting release to say the least. I would of thought that they would of let this line die off after the original octane. Knew more people that hated the original than liked it. Still at a pretty hefty price point for mediocre performance. #Scratchinghead.

Wondering how this will compare to the Tag? Seems like they could be very similar. Need a ball to go down to from Vengeance. Any opinions??

That's a reasonable question, and if the answer is "not that much", then i know my son will look elsewhere.    That's essentially the hole he is looking to fill.  He has a Vengeance and a Tag.  Sometimes in tournaments it seems he could use something in between.  He has the red primal too and will sometimes go to it to get a bit more length (in between), but I think a redline or one of the venoms would really help him out.  he had a shock at 14# and that usually worked well for him.  It also offered a different look other than skid/flip.

I would imagine Motiv would ensure this ball is between the Primal Rage Remix and the Tag.  Whether or not it is close to the original Primal Rage is unknown.  That ball is one of the longest running balls in the current line up.

Current thoughts are the Redline is more snappy than what people originally thought.  Could be the drillings people used or the factory surface prep.  If this is to be a more skid/snap reaction than the Redline, it could end up being significantly condition specific.

Not many liked the original Octane, but the core was liked.  Updating the cover should help a lot.  I am surprised they went back to the Octane name since that ball left a bad taste for some people.

As for recycling cores, everyone does it.  It takes time to generate new technology.  Right now, Motiv seems to be focusing their energies more on coverstocks than cores.

Include me in the group that didn't care for the Octane, but loves that core which was also in the Thrash Frenzy and I loved that ball.

If the description of the Burn is correct, I don't think that they would be similar as the Tag description says "light oil" and the Burn says "light to medium". I will say the Burn appears as if it will be very versatile with a light to medium oil description. With surface adjustments, the Tag can be used on oil heavier than light oil, but it was intended to be a light oil ball. I have one and have used it on light oil, and medium-light oil with surface adjustments. I know one person that uses the Tag on medium oil, but he has way more hand than I do. Bottom line for me is that I don't care much for the Tag on any condition and wish I had never bought it.

True of course. But usually these things trickle down, not up.

Based on the shape of the core...

The tag core should roll similar to an IQ Tour, and the octane something like a frantic core....the octane being a much better core design for light oil
In the bag [Infinite Physix, Volatility Torque, Night Road, Phaze III, Burner Solid, Hustle AU]
*Now Testing* IQ Ruby, Renevant, another IQ Tour solid
Coming soon...???

I'm kinda surprised about all the Octane hate,I think it's a good ball. maybe priced a little to high for what it is and maybe the reason for the dislike by many? the Tag is a good ball too and priced lower so maybe why it gets more love.

No love for me on either one, especially the TAG. I am in the process of changing my grip to give me a bit different roll on my balls. It is looking good on the Scream and Thrash Frenzy. Will find out on the Rage next week and if all still successful I may do the TAG and Octane and see if they will perform better for me.

Brick, if I could get a penny for every time you mention the Thrashy Frenzy I would probably be able to buy a Octane Burn with that money! LOL I never had that ball but now I am intrigued of how that ball was since you always say how good that ball was for you  ;D

And they say this site is dead?   ::)

Motiv removed the Octane and Tribal Fire from their ball guide as an FYI.  Also removed the Covert Revolt as the Revolt Havoc replaced it.

Hey ... The Rage is even better. One the best balls I ever had. I just don't mention it much because it is still available. The TF was a great ball when the lanes started to break down ant the Primal Scream started having problems due to the breakdown. I later moved up a lb to 13# and got the Rage, but the TF was no longer available so I got the Octane instead.

Yeah, it appears that maybe I mention the TF too much, and things like that happen when you get old (78). They call this the "Golden Years", but the only thing I find "Golden" any more is my Pee ....   ::)  :)
