Let's start off by stating that I am not on Motiv staff, not being compensated nor am I representative for the company so anything I say is strictly my humble opinion.
What do I like about Motiv? Being a shop operator for many years, it never ceases to amaze me how many customers want hook, hook and more hook. Yet I see their scores/averages either stay the same or watch them brutally try and heave balls down the dry just to hold pocket (which basically is trying to match speed to rev ratio). Unfortunately, a high percentage of bowlers still like "2nd arrow" and getting left of that becomes an uncomfortable angle or area to throw. Too many balls these days offer way too much built in hook which has taken that "2nd arrow" away from the bowler causing them to leave their comfort zone.
Yes, there are many ways to drill a ball so they all don't hook as much but within that there are still limits as to what can be done before we take away natural characteristics of ball cover/core and design. Along with exotic layouts (which I have done many, currently throwing pin past pap layout), it is very possible that by the time we get a forced reaction, we sacrifice other parts of what the ball was designed to do or we no longer get proportionate amounts of skid/hook/roll which can then affect hitting power.
With Motiv's current design that I've seen, they don't "over hook" which is a nice needed change of pace these days. Here's the math, if you do play 10 board (pocket exists on 17), we only need 7 boards of hook. Most balls on the market today possess way more than that. So now what happens is you are forced to swing that ball but your "A" game is not swinging. Hence the difficulty in repetition which can then result in sub standard scores.
I don't have the entire line to help offer suggestions to your individual game but I'm sure Justin here can help you with that. If by chance I do get to drill up more Motiv equipment, I will more than happy to help as well.
