Hilarious to go back and read some of the hypnosis and irrational fear that some people were under only a few years ago. Most of these comments haven’t aged well at all.

You had me doing the same thing. This thread is hilarious, and agreed; some sensationalist comments really haven't aged well.

I've been trying to find someone that still has one of these lying around. 14-16 lbs. I really miss this ball. had so many great games even on the newer synthetic lanes. If anyone knows someone that would have one available please reach out to me.

Sam Cooper Roto Grip Amateur Staff. The DNA Coil features the EXO pearl coverstock along with the Supercoil Core. Layout is 45x5 1/4”x75(pin down). I prefer to have a pin down pearl in the bag for the surfaces around Pittsburgh. After the first DNA rolled so well for me I went with a similar layout just a weaker pin. With the coil you see similar tendencies of the OG with just a cleaner and quicker response to the friction. This ball is great for when the fronts are burnt up a bit but need control on the back end. The Supercoil core has enough strength and the EXO pearl cover has enough traction to hook in oil.

Where I have used the DNA Coil is after the Optimum Idol when that tends to be too early or when it won’t go through the pins correctly. I bowl in a house shot burn league on a high friction surface. The Coil has no trouble getting through the body of the house shot and giving me controllable pop on the back end. Then when the Coil is too smooth(think this is due to the layout) I can go to the Attention Star or VEBO to get more on the back end and better pin carry. The Coil will be a good option in the bag for anyone that wants a strong pearl or the environment you in has friction in the fronts. Don’t sleep on the Coil if striking is in your DNA!

59251 - Drilling & Layouts / Anyone still using Bill Hall's Tri-Grip?
« Last post by racerjohnbf on March 26, 2024, 01:21:58 PM »
I was just wondering if anyone is still using Bill Hall's Tri-Grip. I have found a proshop a couple hrs drive from me that advertises that they do it and I'm looking to try something different to get my hand to lay on the ball better.

Anyone still using it?

Opinions?

Thanks,

John

Urethane for EVERYONE! Storm IQ Tour 78/U. The color and roll of this ball will keep you intrigued.

Patterns used for review:

Pattern C: 45 Ft 29Mls 2.5:1

LAYOUT:  4X4X2 , I use multiple hand positions and speed changes which changes rev rate, read and speed of ball.

PLAY

The Storm IQ Tour 78/U is all that, a Urethane Ball you need for any moment. Don’t think this is a ball you won’t use very often. It is a ball you can use whenever you need to. Controllable, big hitting power, mid and down lane read/hook and easy to move around on different patterns and lines of play. The best part? IT’S URETHANE and you NEED ONE!

Pattern A:

Ball 1.  Out of box the Storm IQ Tour 78/U played as expected closer to the gutter. The hardness allowed for an easier twig line style of play. The short sport pattern kept play right and straight, slowly opened up after 2 games and played moved to a 10 -2 line of play through 6 games. Out of box surface held the roll, hitting power and lane play as oil worked into the surface.

Pattern B:

Ball 2: Out of box cover was restored for the Storm IQ Tour 78/U. This pattern was a little trickly initially the Storm IQ Tour 78/U had a little too quick read in the front part of lane to stay right. The move was bugger to the left. The best place to score consistently was 22-15 down lane. Lane play was trickly as bowlers were playing multiple areas of the lane. Storm IQ Tour 78/U could hold the line but carry was a problem. Surface, in my thoughts, need to be a little smoother (1000/3000 grit) for the scorability factor. Another layout would have been ideal for this one.

Pattern C:

Ball 3: Out of box cover was taken down to 500. This pattern being a longer pattern/with volume was most ideal from the right to create the hold down lane for the moves left. The other bowlers also used urethane at 500 Grit. The Storm IQ Tour 78/U shined on this pattern and really worked the front to back of the pattern. Bowled 4 games with great success from this angle. Decided to 500 Grit again to simulate a second Storm IQ Tour 78/U. Let me tell you it just gave more room and more power without big moves. Last 3 games and still most move was 5 boards left of original.  Real keys here are how it read and controlled the pattern and as the pattern developed for ball changes and moves left, it allowed for me to stay right longer against the other bowlers while still scoring.

LOW DOWN: The Storm IQ Tour 78/U needs to be in your BAG. PERIOD! Urethane that works for all styles. Next us league night!

There are usually 1 or 2 new bowling balls a year that I call "special" and early returns show this is one that fits that category. The Hammer Effect for me, in limited games has been really good. It is much more ball than I expected out of a pearl (Cohesion Pearl). It is shiny, but reads the mid-lane very well and continues to rev up thru the pins. The new Huntsman core is supposed to be the best of the Widow & Vibe cores. As I continued left I was surprised to see the ball still splitting the 8-9. Usually the deeper I move the more deflection I get.  The eye test was telling me this ball was still exiting the back of the pin deck in a very strong position. The Hammer Effect will be heard from a lot this year. Great looking too.

I've never met Robert Smith, but he does seem to have quite a few revs on the ball. I think I'll get to compete against him this weekend in Grants Pass. Let's get back to the ball itself.

The SUBLIME is a ball you use when trying to smooth out down lane reaction and not give up too much power.

Pattern A:

Out of box the SUBLIME actually tricked me at first. Set out on fresh sport. Initially I had over and under, as I searched for a consistent line. Too early or too late was the initial thoughts. Waited for next group to jump in and transition the pattern. This is where the SUBLIME had better results. The pattern hit mid lane friction and the SUBLIME capitalized on the initial pattern transition read, move towards the pins and smoothed out for the finish.

Pattern B:

Out of Box SUBLIME jumped all over this. Initial line was 12-5 and migrated in to finish with 17-10 and 17 to 5. No problems with volume of oil due to two oils used and friction right. Ball control for the pattern was easy. Wasn’t speed sensitive or jumpy off the spot.

Typical house moves on a higher volume than most places.  High scores and Big angles.

LOWDOWN: When playing the fresh with SUBLIME play from the right baby swing angles and move in. If high rev player jump in quick. Tweener have the whole right side on house patterns.

The DV8 Notorious is a formidable bowling ball that combines a Composite Fang Hybrid Reactive coverstock, an Antagonist core with DOT technology, and DynamiCore to deliver outstanding hook potential, durability, and hitting power.
