new smells
« on: April 24, 2005, 06:42:37 PM »
so i know that roto is produced by storm but they have never had any smells. but now they will, the RS-X smells like chocolate. i think they should just leave the whole scent game to storm balls only.

From time to time our equipment has had scent, but not on purpose.  No matter how much they flush the tanks sometimes a run of balls gets a previous scent, but it is never strong.

I thought so Roger, we've drilled many rotos that have had a slight scent to them.  When we first got our batch of Ultra Sonics, they smelled really good, like a bouquet of fresh flowers.  My teammate even has one of them and it still has the scent.  James(bowlingmytmouse) has even got a few Rotos drilled up by us that have had a slight scent to them(I believe even one had a slight hint of banana like the Core Power LRG).  It think it's a nice addition because some other companies balls have a disgusting odor to them(especially some of the dull particles).

I beg to disagree.  I've had two Rushes.  One smelled not so bad, but it did smell.  The other had to be kept in the garage for a while until it calmed down.  The strong chemical smell would drive us out of the house.  A chemist friend told me it smelled like pure urethane.  It's much better now and even gets to stay in the basement.

Oh c'mon now Jeff...don't you think the masses are looking for a ball that smells more urethane-y...it has to be one of the most requested scents, right up there with the smell when drilling an old rubber Manhattan <G>

well in any case the ball smells like chocolate and its not the only one in the shop that smells that way. as far as the RS-X is concerned.

my rs-x definitely had a scent. it almost smelled like...a core power hrg, that licoric-y smell. not nearly as strong as some of the storm balls that i've had, but definitely a faint smell. was kinda nice when i was drilling it. lol.

Jeff, these do have scents, not on purpose but there is a trace of scent in all of the balls(RS-X) we've recieved.  Some have a faint trace of a chocolately scent, but that cannot be helped since Storm is pouring them.  Even some Ultra Sonics and Supersonics we've gotten in have faint traces of different scents to them.  It's not done on purpose by Roto, but Roger has already explained why some of the balls have scents to them.

Guys,...I know.....I'm just clarifying that although they may "smell" ....it's not something Roto is now doing to their equipment...

just clarifying......

To me , there is a percieved difference (general public, including some on this board ) between:

The RS-X 'has' a scent

and.....

My RS-X, or....some, or A lot of RS-X are coming out of the factory with slight scents...

see what I mean....
