Storm Staffer Tommy Gollick records 47 strikes in a row
« on: May 11, 2010, 11:34:55 PM »
Congrats to Tommy Gollick for recording 47 consecutive strikes at Red Crown Tuesday evening.

Tommy started with a split in frame one and finishing withh 11 strikes in a row for 279. He then went 300, 300, 300 for a total of 1179 for his 4 game set. Truly an amazing accomplishment.

Tommy, Rhonda Lingenfelter hit me up last night and told me about your night. I sat at my computer just shaking my head. Doesn't matter how easy they are---47 in a row, is 47 in a row.

And I believe because it was part of one sanctioned set, I think the 47 in a row is a National Record. The 40 in a row that is counted as the record was over a doubles set then into a singles set. I think that has more of an asterisk than your 47 in a row in the same scheduled league match. Really crazy stuff.

Now a question for you....
I've seen you shoot 300 and big numbers on the PBA X leagues. You tend to react when you've done what you need to which I feel is your biggest strength now--- You've gotten the emotion to not play a part in your shot making. My question? How did you react last night? After the 1st 300, I can assume it wasnt anything huge---but after that.......

Other people might think that this isn't important. But when you win a couple regionals, obviously shooting numbers on a house shot isnt AS important. But shooting 3 straight 300s, there had to be some reactions in there. Care to share? I am curious. Congrats again.

Congrats,Tommy great bowling. What a thrill it must have been.

During a December 1993 tournament, Troy Ockerman, Owosso, Mich., blasted four 300 games - all on the same day. Three of those games, covering two different events, were consecutive. His string of at least 36 in-a-row ties him for the men's record for the most consecutive strikes.
Also sharing the 36 in-a-row record is professional bowler Norm Duke. During an April 1996 PBA tournament held in North Brunswick, N.J. Duke had three consecutive perfect games. His effort was over the course of two squads and not in a single series.
Others who have made strike history include:
With a string of 40 in-a-row, LPBT champion Jeanne Naccarato, Tacoma Wash, is recognized as the most prolific stringer of strikes in history. She had 33 consecutive strikes in an 864 series, then started off her next game with seven more. Wow!
In 1989, Tom Jordan of Paterson, NJ, slammed 46 of a possible 48 strikes while establishing ABC records for a four game series with 1,198 and for three games with 899. Jordan twice had strings of 23 in-a-row in bowling 300-299-300-299.

Awesome shooting Tommy! Righty or lefty, you still have to carry and that is really impressive, plus to be able to use the Invasion for all four games!!!

Well to be honest, Halfway through game three, I kinda felt like I had the ball reaction, and the carry to post a big number. I asked Don (the owner of the center, who bowls our league also) what the house record was (878) that set my goal on making the best shots I could to get a house record, something that I have never accomplished before. That became my goal. I would say the second shot of the tenth was the hardest, just because that is the foundation for shooting the record. The fill ball, I knew 9 would tie, 10 broke it, and after I struck, I deffinatly let loose!!! Hands pump, and some yelling, I reached my goal!!
After getting through that tenth frame, I kind of relaxed a bit, as I was prepared for a single pin, or a really bad shot, something, I figured, because no way could I keep striking. The pins just kept falling. Every time the lanes changed a bit, I got a reader shot to tell me to make an adjustment. The first game, the seven pin started to go late, so I squared up a bit. As the backends tightened up towards the end of the third game, I adjusted my release to get the ball to kick a little more. Then in the last game, as the fronts started to hook a little (a few shots didn't push out as far, but held pocket), I went with a little more speed to hold pocket. The fill ball of the last game took a awhile, I balked twice, as I couldn't get my ball into the swing at the right time to feel fluid. After I left it go, I just watched and prayed that the shot would carry just like the rest of them did.

To be honest, last night still doesn't seem like it happened. It just seems totally impossible, and I am just waiting to wake up, or someone tell me it was a hoax. I just can't even belief it. The thing is, you can set goals to win a tournament, to break previous best sets, but I don't care who you are, no one has a goal to shoot 47 in a row. It is one of those things that I am so blessed to have happened to me, and I will never forget. It is like you said, I don't care how easy the lanes are, 47 in a row, is just unreal.

I remembered Tom Jordan''s 1198 from a few years back and knew that 47 at the very  least tied a record.  I''m sure there are a host of 1179''s or the like out there( God, I can''t believe how easy that was to type) but 1179 w/47 straight is just plain amazing.

Awesome stuff man. Thanks for sharing what you were thinking. Congrats again. Now when certain people come up and say "Yea, thats like that time I had the front 9", you can reply with, "Yea, I remember this one time I had the back 47". They will probably hang their head and walk away. LOL

great bowling and awesome series Tommy!!!  Nice to see it done at such a great center too.   I love Red Crown lanes, used to bowl there a lot in my junior days (most of it being shortly after the renovations).  Congratulations again Tommy!!!

only with an invasion. lol. what split did you leave?

Thanks everyone! I am just speechless right now. I am in utter disblief.

I used an Invasion for the entire set. To carry 47 in a row, wow, I just can't beleive I am saying that.

Thanks again.

I don't think this counts for a 900 sreies, though. USBC reconizes the first three games of a four game set. The 879 gave me house record by 1 pin, and the 47 in a row may be a national record, but I don't know if they count that or not. It would be great to be in the record books though.
