Virtual Gravity Life

When I first bought my VG, it was AWESOME!

However, after about 30 games, I noticed that the ball was polishing itself, and after 60 games, it looked like a billiard ball, very shiny and not a lot of snap.  I took it to a pro shop, had it baked and resurfaced, but nothing has brought it back even close to the original shape.

I even went so far to purchase a second ball, love it new, but after around 60 games, I want to throw it away.  I am not the only one in our wood lane house to have this reaction.

Anyone else have this reaction from the VG??

Any ideas how to resurrect this, or should I look for another ball, if so, which one?

I've had mine for over 120 games.  Had to tweak the cover several times each time resulting in nearly OOB reaction.  I'm due to extract the oil from the ball quite soon which should only add to the ball's "like new" status after resurfacing.  I have no problem investing a little time in between league or tournament play reviving equipment like this.  IMHO, the more due diligence you give your equipment, the better your results will be.  The only ball such as this which did not respond well to reviving was a No Mercy.  Otherwise, a Threshold, Bounty, and a Super Carbide Bomb have all been pieces of the arsenal that have been very easy to bring to life when the reaction seems a bit diminished.

some coverstocks shine up faster then others and the VG is one of them.

also the 500/4000 surface is similar to a polish. both surfaces will get tracked up after 10 or 12 games and really start to lose their reaction after 30 games if nothing is done to keep the surface fresh. all bowling balls do this but since the vg sucks up a lot of oil and has a large backend it becomes very noticeable.

some people are able to get the ball back to racting like oob and some cant. I know my proshop guy has this problem and sometimes has to drill up more then 1 of each ball for when the first ones surface gets messed up.

Clean & Dull will take lane shine off a ball.  If you have ball that shines up fast try C & D.

Between myself and my dad, we have owned about 8 different VG's, and every last one has done exactly what has been stated. Out of the box, it just seems like your dreaming when you throw the ball, then all of a sudden it looses reaction and more importantly carry! You can bake and resurface it to be it back close to oob reaction, but if you bowl like me, thats a two weeks tops before you have to resurface. Great ball, but maintenance on it is that of a ferrari!

when i first got one it was WAY to strong(drilled for oil tho)..polished it made it squirty on the backend. over the summer our house put much more oil than the past winter season, VG loved it!!  towards the last few weeks u could see it loosing reaction on the back part.. touchn up the cover never helped really.  its at 240 with 1000 over it(sai air pads) with snake oil.. it doesnt go as long at OOB but can still swing it just as much.

i shoulda waited for the VE to come out... would have been a WWWAAAAAYYYYY much batter ball for me!!

I am not buying into VG ball death. My VG has 30+ games on it. I have not noticed any loss of carry or reaction. I have changed the surface to 4000 polished. The ball reacts like a champ and with this surface, I can start left and play all threee games with it. I do freshen up the cover with 4000 + a light coat of beans sauce, just to keep that good carry, but I have seen no signs of cover death.

I clean my balls after every set, and wipe them after each shot.

No. I have taken it to 2000 plus polish. Too strong. Went back to 4000, light polish and the ball is a beast on our THS.

The ball shines up as described over time, but hit it with a 4000 abralon pad and its like new. I have hot water bathed one time. Not because it needed it. Just because I am paranoid.

Clean n Dull at least once every two weeks. More often if I have time.

Beans sauce works great on the cover on top of the 4000. You have to be careful though because too much shine and the ball will slide on you.

I haven't had the Gravity for a long time, but I know it has more than 30 games on it with no issues.  I clean it after sesson.  Every two weeks, whatever surface it's at(currently 1000 dull), I touch it up with an abralon pad.  I have what is almost a 3 year old Track Power Machine that still rolls as nice and hits as hard as it did when I first got it.

Regardless of manufacturer, depending on the type of lanes you bowl on, a ball will end up at about 600 grit after a period of use. Most bowling balls should be taken back to factory OOB or what ever you were using it at after about 21 games. Once again alot depends on the lane surface you are bowling on. Remember, regardless of what ball you are using, after about 21 games it will be at 600 grit whether sanded or polished and is not going to react like a 4000 or 2000 grit ball sanded or polished.
