X-Factor Vertigo Life Span
« on: June 04, 2006, 09:55:46 AM »

Hello, I was thinking about getting an X-Factor Vertigo as my heavy oil ball and I was wondering about how long this ball lasts...  I have seen people saying that it died out on them quickly.  Is this for real?  If you maintain the coverstock after everytime you bowl will that not keep it in peak performance?  Furthermore, couldn't you get the ball resurfaced to get it back to tip-top shape?

Let me know what you guys think...  These balls are pretty affordable right now.

I've used mine for easily 70+ games and it's still reacting strong. Not as strong as when I first got it (man, that thing would hook out of the house easily), but it's still a hard hitter and handles oil well.

I got about 100 games on mine. Resurfaced it back to factory, but it just wasn't the same. I gave it to my cousin

Edit: I cleaned it after every set

okay one of my friends has one and his died, not the ball it was the user, he never cleaned it or took any care of it

the other person i know cleans his after every set and his has maybe lost a board and has well over 300 games with one resurface but is light sanded after every thirty games back to OOB, not resurfaced just lightly sanded, he uses black magic rejunvinator cleaner after every time he bowls and thats his matenance, it works and his is lasting and doing great

I just bought on new on ebay for $75. I wonder if after a bit of games if ebonite's hook again will work. I have an xfactor deuce and a trauma er both with about 200 games. x factor died but trauma still strong. xfactor drilled for midlane roll and arcing backend, trauma all backend. I wonder if the drilling layout has something to do with lifespan. both are at the proshop getting the hook again treatment, curious to see the after effect.

Hmm... What a tough decision.  Does anyone else use that Black Magic Rejuvenator cleaner?  I am currently using Track's Powerwash as a cleaner and Clean N' Dull for my dull ball and Storm Reacta Shine for my shiny ball.

well the cleaners your using are great ones, we just don't have them in our local pro shop so we use the next best thing (IMO) in black magic.

remember i've never heard anyone have issues with a vertigo that take care of it by cleaning and regular maintenace

i have had mine since the end of last summer and easily put over 150 games on it and it is still fine, although it probally needs resurfaced, the ball still rolls great and hits with a great amount of power, i also clean the ball after each set with reacta clean..hope this helps

I had a vertigo and cleaned it after every use and mine died and died fast. My buddy has one and it seems to still work but it has dropped down bad too. I didnt think the ball was a very good heavy oil ball to begin with. I had mine drilled pretty strong and I have a good hand and it would slide out a lot on me. But then again it might work great for you.

I've got about 175 games on mine.  I clean it after bowling with reacta-clean and haven't had any problems with it.  It loves the oil.  I was disappointed to see them retiring it.

See it is strange...  I get conflicting stuff on this.  Well, it is going to be a little while until I save up the money for this ball anyway so I'll just see if anything comes out in the meantime to maybe take its spot.

How would you compare the Vertigo to the Passion?  I have seen the Passion used extensively.

I have both the Vertigo and the Passion.  The Passion snaps alot harder than the Vertigo.  It can handle alot more oil than the Vertigo can.  The break is unbelievable.  The Vertigo for me is a much more versitile ball.  It is easier to manage on variety of lane conditions.  Neither ball deflects much.  They both seem to keep on driving.
