Suggestions to fill the gap
« on: August 14, 2005, 11:04:40 PM »
I need to fill the gap between my GP2 and my FAZ.  I am looking for something with a lot of angle for the high medium to low heavy patterns.  I'd kinda like to stick with a symmetrical core as they seem to fit my style a little better for this.  Here's what I have:

Heavy: GP2
Med/Heavy:  <== Needed
Med: Freak-A-Zoid
Light: Rule (Highly polished)
Spare/Dry: XXXL until Track's spare ball is released

I'm looking at the Arsenal Angular, the Blue Heat and the Arsenal Reactive.  Any suggestions?

Well, the Arsenal Angular isnt aggressive enough to play on those conditions. The Blue Heat is good for that condition but is a very even arcing ball. You state that you want alot of angle, therefore, I might see what the Arsenal Reactive can do. Or if you want to dive into an asymmetrical, look at the 5.0 or Rule Delta 1.

For what we have out currently, you are screaming 5.0 or Arsenal Angular to me. The particle will help it cover more oil, while the pearl will make it not as aggressive as a dull particle (GP2).

The Delta may fill this void as well, but I have yet to get any, so I can't comment for sure!

What kind of oil will the Arsenal Angular handle as compared to the Aresenal Reactive?  It looks like the Reactive is supposed to handle a bit more oil.

Without testing a Reactive yet..I don't know for sure. The Angular is just that on the backend. The Reactive looks to me like a VERY early aggressive ball. Low Rg, dull reactive cover. If I had to GUESS, I would say if you are looking for more separation from your GP2 go with the Angular or 5.0 for the simple fact that the reactive may be too aggressive up front for what you need.

Wylie-

Your personal style seems to match up pretty closely to my own, so I'll feel a little more comfortable telling you what I've seen.

My FAZ is a early-rolling, even-arcing ball.  I haven't thrown more than 15 games with it yet, but I would say that it appears to be on medium, med/heavy what the GP2 is on heavy...the ball paths would look very similar if compared on the separate conditions.  I also have an Arsenal Angular, and this ball clears the heads better than my FAZ...it would be much more angular than the FAZ if I hadn't drilled it with control in mind.

I think if you want to put an Arsenal Angular between your GP2 and FAZ, keeping in mind that you want a lot of angle at this position, you MIGHT have to dull the surface a little bit.  I'd definitely try it out-of-box first, but I'd keep in the back of my mind that some surface might be needed to get it to read the slightly heavier patterns.  I don't have a 5.0, I've only seen other people throw it, so I'll hold back on commenting on that ball.  The people throwing it (Aiezza, JW on this site) made it look very promising though!

Clint can give you more help on layout suggestions than I can...he, Tenpinspro, and Carl were very helpful in laying out my recent Track additions!

I'll add my two cents, I have a aggressive for my heavy oil ball. It wasn't meant to be but, it was drilled to strong. I have a FAZ that will handle most mediums. I'm in the same boat as you are. I need something in the middle of the two. I have friend with a angular who bowls very striaght from the outside parts of the lane. It doesn't handle much oil, goes very long. To make a comparision if I had drilled my FAZ a little stronger it would handle more oil than the Angular. I'm getting a Arsenal Reative. If you want asymmetric get a Rule Delta.

As of right now, I am leaning towards the reactive.  I have a few weeks left before leagues start so it isn't a huge rush.  I am going to wait and see some of the reviews on the Reactive once a few more people have thrown it.  Sounds like it may be the way to go.  If not the Reactive, I'd have to lean to the 5.0 or the Delta 1.  Thanks for all the replies.
