Weird issue with Rising tonight.....
« on: August 15, 2008, 04:58:55 PM »
I have mine with the recommended layout for long and strong, oob.  Tonight was the very first time I had a really hard time bringing it back to the pocket.  I was on a Shark-esq pattern so I had to play the deep angle.  I tried targeting between 10-15 as my break point, and it flopped into the pocket instead of making that hard left turn.  With that said I was in downtown split city tonight.  I tried starting off between 28-35, with intial targets between 15-25.  Hand, no hand.  Speed, no speed-tried it all with the same lazy flop no matter what.  I figured with my revs I would have no problem.

It wasn't until I took it down to 1000 that it made that turn I know the Rising to do.  Is it weird for me to have such a strong ball that dull?  Should I take the Rising up to 2000/4000 and bring my K.E. down to 1000 since it's the stronger midlane reader?  If I go with layout#4 with the UpRising, should I just take it down to 2000?

I initially wanted my heavy oil balls to be Rising, UpRising, then the K.E.  Now it looks like it's going to be UpRising, K.E. and then the Rising.  Sorry for what may appear to be incoherent rambling, but I'm almost as confused now as I was when I was trying to figure out the Kinietic.

Ideas?  Suggestions?  Anything?

With your high rev rate, and with the Rising having worked well up to this point at its stock surface (4000 grit Abralon), why do you assume this one night will be typical of all future Shark-type patterns?

I'd this was extremely atypical.

For most of with a human-type rev rate (), the Rising at 4000 Abralon is a medium oil ball. We need to take it to 1000 grit or so for heavier oil.

If you're worried about seeing such heavy oil again, why not get a 2nd ball, maybe a used one (if money is a problem) and keep it at 1000 grit just for emergencies, such as last night? Otherwise, it makes no sense to panic because of one unusual experience.

I'd keep things as you originally stated:
Rising, Uprising when the midlane gets too dry for the Rising, and KE for control or when you need to go straighter, for the same oil, roughly.

What did your other balls do or was the Rising the only one you used? If the other balls reacted the same as they always do and the Rising was off, who knows. Sometimes a ball just doesn't match up the way you expect. Doesn't mean there is something wrong with it. Like charlest said, no need to panic and rework all your surfaces over one experience.

Can't say anything about that.  You make one hell of a point, and a accurate one too.  Not to mention, it's not like I had to take down to 180 or anything.  I just didn't take last night as what it truly was-a reality check.  I've been bowling very well the 2 weeks prior, and just got dumb I'd say.  Thanks.

I've chosen layout #4 for my incoming UpRising.  So, it'll be UpR, Rising, then K.E. for the long/heavy.

Xcessive_Evil,

You can also hedge your bets with the Rising by taking it "down" to 2000 grit Abralon, instead of the stock 4000 Ab. It's only a small increase in roughness.
