Howard Johnsons in Albuquerque conditions?
« on: January 21, 2008, 02:42:51 AM »
Just wondering if there were any locals from Albuquerque that could give any InSite into the condition of this motel? It is the lowest priced hotel on the USBC Travel list. We have a few guys that don't want to spend much on rooms so they can spend more on golf and brackets! Is this place decent/clean etc...? Any help would be appreciated!

If it's the HoJo's that I remember from last time in ALB it's right across the street from a golf course.

I don't have any experience in Albuquerque, but in my experience it's worth the extra money to stay at a nicer hotel.  I've had good luck with Hamptons, they're usually about $20 or so more than some of the cheap motels but nice and in better shape than the cheap places.

I live in Albuquerque/Rio Rancho.  If you are talking about the Howard Johnson's at I-40 and Eubank, it is located across the freeway from Los Altos Golf Course(just a City Course, nice and flat with a lot of trees).  The Howard Johnson's has been there for as long as I have lived here(20+ years), it does get a lot of business and always seems packed.  I believe they also have an ajoining bar and restaurant.  As far as Motel 6's go, there is a fairly brand new one off I-25 and Ellison/Paseo Del Norte frontage road.  It's only been there about 5 years and of course is the newer design.  There is also a Howard Johnson's in this same area of the frontage road(I don't remember which side it's on, it's much newer than the aforementioned one).

I hope you are not coming down the weekend of April 26-27, that weekend is most likely already booked due to the Annual "Gathering of the Nations" Pow Wow.  This event on it's own will cause all the hotels to be booked by now.   It's the Largest event of it's kind in the entire US.

Hope this helps, and if you need more info just let me know.

Thanks Pat. On the web it shows like 6 motel 6's in area. Are you talking about the one at 1000 Avenida Cesar Chavez Southeast.? We go early April so the other stuff shouldn't effect us.

Also the Howard Johnson's address that i was talking about is:
10300 Hotel Ave. N.E. I't listed in the orange Hotel guide from USBC travel. It's $47.95 standard room. or $57.95 Deluxe room.

5 of the 6 are the older type that have outside entrance's.  The newer one at 8510 Pan American Fwy NE is the newer design where you enter from the main entrance/lobby(much, much nicer as far as Motel 6's are concerned).

That's the one, and if you are going ot play golf I would recommend:
City Courses - Los Altos, Ladera, Arroyo Del Oso
For a step above the City Courses - Sandia Resort, Isleta Eagle(probably the best value), Santa Ana and Pueble De Cochiti.  All are excellent courses and if you want to pay a little more for the ultimate golf experience in the albuquerque area then give Paako Ridge located on the eastside of the Sandia Mountains(absolutely gorgeous).

The area isn't all that bad, I used to live down the street from there and played in a softball league right across the street from the HOJO.  If you are staying there, make sure you try the OWL Cafe(try the green chili cheese burger and a side of pinto's).  It is located right next to the hotel and across the street from the softball complex I mentioned above.
If you like "New Mexican" food, let me know and I can recommend a few of those in the area.

Here's driving directions for Howard Johnson's to the Convention Center.
