Black Ops
« on: October 30, 2015, 08:52:19 PM »
Got to drill and roll a Black Ops for the first time today. It's not often I come immediately to ballreviews to talk about a ball, but I had to with this one.

Layout is 50 x 5 1/4 x 40.
Tilt: 10
Rotation: 70
Revs: 375-400
Speed- 16-16.5 on screen (down lane)
Pap: 4 1/2 right, 3/4 up.

On my house's heavyish volume THS, this ball is something else. There wasn't much for midlane movement, but I could see the ball reading the midlanes well. Almost like it was setting itself up for a big turn at the breakpoint. I wouldn't quite say it was skid-snappy, but it gave me a really hard arcing backend motion. Plenty of recovery when I got it outside too far or too quickly. Hit and carry was impressive.

At the point, the only criticism I could possibly come up with, is referring to it as a "heavy oil" ball. It could be I think, with the right surface and layout, but out of the box I would say it's closer to medium-medium/heavy. That's looking for something I don't like about it though. To be honest, it's an excellent ball in my mind, and I'm really excited about throwing it more.

As a bonus, it's probably the best looking all black bowling ball I've ever seen :)

I'll probably bring the camera down to the bowling alley tomorrow morning and take some video. It won't be a big production by any means, but it'll at least give ya an...unbiased idea of what to expect. I might even show some misses! lol.

Get one now. Period. I just punched one tonight, went 50*4.5*35, and ball is stupid off the friction. If there is one critique, its the 1500 polished surface. Throw some surface on it if you're looking at some volume.

^^^ I don't disagree with this. It really is (so far, anyway) pretty impressive. And fun to throw lol.

isn't this just a remake of the Eagle or something new to the mix?
The harder I try the harder they fall

I'm sure someone will be able to clarify more, but I think it's kind of a re-hash of it. Lower intermediate diff if I remember right. I've never had an eagle, or for that matter, any 900 Global, so it's definitely something new to me!

Yes...  Started with The Break, then Purple Eagle, then Black Eagle, now Black Ops.

I think they are all the same cover/core.  I had several and like them all!

They're all the same ball. War eagle was a bit less, but at last count, this is maybe the 5th or 6th reiteration of the ball. Why mess with perfection?

But please, get rid of the 1500 polished surface.

(I'm not a fan of it on anything, to be fair.  :p )

I had the purple/violet Eagle, three Black Eagles and the BE Pearl. All were great.  The Black Ops is better yet, even with the OOB surface.  I am going to try mine at different surfaces. The S70 cover handles surface changes very well.
I would guess the resins used today in the S70 shell are better than the original Eagles.

Took some video this morning, but my virus ridden computer (thanks daughters...) won't recognize the format it recorded in. Maybe I'll just upload some raw footage and let you guys skip through the boring stuff (re-racks and what not). Better than nothing? lol. Barely...
