Pure Hammer & Big Block Diesel
« on: April 28, 2004, 05:52:20 PM »
I now see balls called the Pure Hammer and the Big Block Diesel on the approved balls list at www.bowl.com.  The approval date is listed as 4/04 for the Pure Hammer and 3/04 for the Big Block Diesel.  The Switch Blade is listed as approved 2/04 and we still haven't seen that one.

Is Hammer planning an explosion of new releases during the summer?  Does anybody know anything about any of this stuff?

The Deal's core reminds me of a coffee can with mass bias...  and it's supposed to be big skid/flip?  *scratches head*

I just got a look at these balls over on bowlingballreviews.com.  Man, the Deal and the Big Block Diesel both look like just my kind of ball.  The Big Block Diesel surprises me though.  It appears to be a solid version of the original Diesel reactive pearl.  I'm surprised that if Hammer was going to do that, that they didn't do it much sooner.  The other surprising thing is that they released solid and pearl versions of the original particle Diesels and quickly decided to do away with the pearl, so why do this now?  I like that original Diesel core dynamic though, so I'll probably get one.

Those low RG, barrel shaped cores work well for me, so the Deal looks promising too.  It'll be interesting to start getting some user feedback about this bunch.

I wonder what kind of price point the Deal will be?

I think it's very possible that The Deal will replace the Vicious line and probably be priced very similarly.  I like the name for the Deal too, they could come out with the Real Deal, the Big Deal, etc.  Good work by Hammer.

Yes!  Good one!  I think I'd purchase a BF Deal just on name alone!

I may have given the impression in my last post that the Big Block is pearl--if so, I didn't mean to do that.  My last post was worded poorly.  The ball appears to be a solid, which only makes sense, since they still have the Diesel Reactive Pearl available.  If the Big Block was a pearl, it would be more or less the same ball.  They do appear to look alike, however.  The Diesel Reactive Pearl photo at www.bowlingballreviews.com doesn't look like any DRP that I've seen.  The ones I've seen are red and blue, just like the new Big Block.

Actually, the Big Block photo at bowlingballreviews does look like a pearl.  I don't think it is, though.

Lefty Hack is correct.  Per Brian Graham, Big Blue Spare is 3 piece core, polyester cover.  Forget what's inside that ball...has anyone ever seen a better color blue than the BAD Arse blue as is in Big Blue???

I'm curious about the SwitchBlade.  Reactive solid?  Sounds like the ugly green and blue one that was discontinued that worked well.  Any change in the core?
I cant wait to see the BF Deal too!!!!

Switch blade is the same core as is in Blade Reactive.  The cover is different, Switch has the same cover as was on the original Vicious (yellow and green).  Much cleaner through the fronts and stronger on the back.  Mine are due in today so I have not thrown it first-hand but the reviews on this site indicate a very good ball!!

Hammer----Actually the cover is the reactive cover from the purple vicious.
The Green and yellow Vicious was the particle.   This one is reactive.

I bowled with mine last night.   922 for 4.   Missed 6 easy spares.  Good ball.   Not jerky off the dry, more archy.   Mine is layed out 5" pin 75*.  I did knock the factory shine off of it and sanded with 4000 abralon pads.  Ball is very clean through the fronts, reads the mids well, but not strong, and hits hard.   I personally like this one better than my Sling Blade.   The cover doesn't appear to be as strong on the Switch as the Sling.

I will know more as I bowl more with it.

Let me know how yours work out.
