My high series is a 782, and in that set my high game was a 268.  I've had maybe  5 series over 720, but my high game overall is a 279, 9 in a row.  For whatever reason I can't seem to get that perfect game.  I know it's nerves, and when I get nervous my mechanics go in the toilet.

I know there are other guys out there in the same position or guys that used to be in my position.  What did you guys do to get over that hump?

Clint

Yep, I have numerous 700s with no 300s and I just shot 800 last week with a high of 298.

I am right there with ya Clint.  Shot 258,279,235=772 last week.  279 was front 9 - 4 pin.  My high game is 279 and I have about 18 of them.  My game's biggest problem is fast feet.  So, of course, when I have the front 9, guess what happens - fast feet; late ball; tug.  Man do I wish I could turn off my brain for the 10th frame just one time.

How did I get over the hump?  I haven't - at least not yet.  If you find a way, let me know.

I've had 2 800 series - one in a nonsanctioned tournament (807), and one in a sanctioned league (811). Both were without a 300 game. The 811 was 280-289-242.

The 807 - I don't remember...

but - my high series WITH a 300 game (my one and only sanctioned one) was 782.

My dad went 278-279-280 in our 700 Tournament a few years ago.

I also watched a guy shoot 298-299-230something in a tournament in Lansing, MI

278 - 278 - 264 - 820 last 800

Had another one the year before with a 297 game.  Was trying to get a 299, the only honor score I was missing for the year, came in to lite, left 2-4-5.

Knock on wood, every 300 game has given up a 700.

Key to getting over the hump is to just take it one frame at a time.  Go into the nite with Sawbones philosphy.  Is it reasonable to expect a 300?  Is it reasonable to expect an 800?  Nope.

What is reasonable is to expect to throw a strike.  We've all done that hundreds of times.  Just take it one frame at a time for 36 frames.
