Are you famous for anything?
« on: May 12, 2006, 05:12:27 AM »
Bowling related, that is.

Like having the front 11 strikes and then throwing a gutter ball in the fill shot, for a whopping 290.  Or back to back lillies.  You ever do something that no one seems to forget?

I'm boring so I don't have anything.

My college room mate shot a 290 the hard way (11 in a row - ditch) while trying out for the PSU bowling team.

I have a similar, but not as painful 270 game.  4 in a row, gutter spare, sheet.  Every ball that stayed on the lane was dead flush, better than any of my 300's.    The ball felt a little loose the first few shots, but I hated to change anything while striking.  I kept thinking of Norm Duke always fiddling with his thumb hole, even when seemingly releasing it well.

I did also provided a free resurface for everyone on the pair another night.  Ditched a ball attempting a 10 pin.  Ball hit a seem or something, jumped straight up into the air and smashed the pindeck light.  They vacuumed for quite a while, but everyone's balls were well scratched by the end of the night.

When I was 15, I was the first youth of in the history of my home lanes to shoot a 300 game.  I think since it's only been one other time.  Amazingly enough, I haven't shot a sanctioned 300 game since and I'm 23....

I needed nine/spare/three pins to win a game for my team on Friday night league in Tuscaloosa, Ala., back in 1992. I proceeded to go nine/spare/two pins -- I took the 4-7 out of a full rack -- to give us a tie. The team captain nearly kicked me off the team on the spot.

I also "Machuga-ed" during practice for the Alabama state men's tournament in Huntsville back in the early 90s (I'd stepped in something before practice began) and had it captured by a local TV station film crew that was in the place to do some package shooting for a sports spot later that night. I have no idea if it aired, and if it did, don't tell me. (g)

In my 802 series - in the 3rd game, had the 1st 11 and fouled the last ball... Way back in '79.

Not famous for it anymore, I haven't seen any of those folks for a couple decades...

One of the guys on our Thursday night team now holds the record for the biggest one week drop in score on our team.....
He went 744 one week, and 498 the next. 190 average bowler.
I did the reverse. Bowling the blind one week a few years back I shot a horrible 510 while averaging 210. I was furious with myself, and promised the team that next week I'd make up for it.
I gave my ball to the pro shop for a resurface and got it back in time to throw two warmup balls with it.
I went 200--279--267. Ten pin spare in the 7th in the 279 game.Front 8,9 pin spare,9 pin spare and 9 pin on the fill ball.

I was the first person to throw over a 1000 for four games (1024)(205,235,289,297) in our intercity league back in 1994.

My brother in law bowls no thumb and he has had 22 or more 300's (jerk ) he makes it look so easy. Even when our center puts out a crappy shot he still manages to keep his 223 avg.

A few things I am famous for.

1.  Simply the way I throw the ball.  People have come up to me after getting back into town from bowling tournaments saying that someone was talking about me during the tournament.

2.  Have two 300s in the same set on three different occasions.

3.  Highest triplicate in the State of Georgia (269 x 3 = 807).  Funny thing is that if I strike out in the 10th frame the 3rd game, I shoot 279.  I am sure you guys can figure out what happened in the 10th.

4.  Shot the first two sanctioned 300 games (on back to back nights) and first sanctioned 800, including the house record 843 at Oasis Bowl.

Not sure if Jabroni is going to post.  But, if not, it might explain a few things to other BR members.  He was bowing YABA one morning.  He said the ball stuck on his thumb, went straight into the air, landed on his head, and split his head open where he had to get stitches.  I still laugh when I hear about that.

Let's see...

297 with a 5-7-10 on the 12th ball.....

10 strike 223 (greek churches in the 5th and 9th)

Struck on two lanes at once......somehow the ball got shot out the back of the other lane through the ball return and carried 10 on that lane too....

Oh yeah...forgot probably the coolest one...

Had a Hole in One and a 300 on the same day....:-)

Not bowling related, but a long time ago when I was 13, or 14 I lost a baseball glove during a game and had to call timeout to look for it. I played 1st base and threw the glove to stop a foul ball, took about 4 minutes to find the glove...... as far as I know the opposing team still talks about it at the ballfield today!!!!!!!! and I am 31.

Making up new names for the game I am playing when bowling badly.  Bolfing was the first...bowling golf scores.  Today at State I started a new one Limbo Bowling...How low can you go.

I only hit average 1 of 6 games  I think I won the limbo award for our pair 466/452 with a 175 entering though our sub wasn't far behind 460/498 with a 177 entering.
