Ballreviews 1970?
« on: March 04, 2008, 06:13:52 PM »
Can you imagine if BR existed in 1970?  What would we talk about?

No interchange shoe soles.
One color bowling balls.
No arsenals.
No "I FINALLY got my 300 posts".

Although, CG placements would be discussed!  Gotta max that side weight in those rubber balls!

Bowling as a sport on TV will never last!

Ummmm Dan in the 60's-70's bowling/PBA on TV was very popular.

Good thread Andrew.

Yes, I know it was very popular, getting as much as a 9 in the Neilson ratings at times. The thought was, would the popularity continue? (Kind of like the discussions on bowling's future today).

We don't have enough lanes for the amount of teams that want to bowl.
Why are league fees and lineage going up, the house is trying to screw us.
Do I really need my own ball and shoes.

I really love my Manahattan Rubber solid black bowling ball that I paid an incredible $29.95 for! Can you believe how much they want for those?

Keep looking... I'm sure there's a 300 in one of those balls you keep buying!!

c(')(') here bunny bunny bunny....

What are you complaining about?!?  I just had to pay $1.95 extra for two lousy pieces of stinking rubber in my fingerholes so I can get more "lift" on the ball?  What kind of asinine marketing is that?

So, just go and take your 140 hack average and go to the easier house, Joke Bowl, and go be happy averaging your 160.  Geez, no wonder the integrity of this sport is on the decline.

Next thing you're going to tell me is that we are going to have these big bulky plastic and metal things that go from your wrist to halfway up your biceps to help keep your hand in position for the whole swing!  Why don't we just have robots bowling on league night?!?

You damn kids!!

I was secretary/treasurer of our bowling association for a couple of years in the early 70's and remember crawling down each lane of each center in our association, measuring the tilt, nicks and gouges in the lane. Filled out a detailed report on each center and mailed it to the ABC so the center could get their certification for the upcoming season. More fun! Got offered a couple of bribes, too.

Even fingertip grips were cause for comments from some.

This board would be much quieter and done all on type-written memos.

The mercury I put inside the plugged started to leak out a couple of nights before. Had to reseal it. Now the ball has a continuous strong straight finish.

haha yea if this was around in 1970, we'd be snail mailing our responses

"600 series FINALLY!!!!"
"Post your achievements here.."  There would be 2 responses...one of them would say, I don't have any yet, but I'm getting closer.

I wasn't around back then, but it's too bad things aren't like they were back then....when scores meant something.

Joe shot a 300 last night. The secretary was at the lanes until 3PM, until the association officials left.
Wonder if they're gonna sanction it?

Munsingwear? What's the deal with the penguin on the pocket?

What color Crown Jewel? I like the blue.

Fingertip drill? Nah. I prefer a semi-fingertip (ouch)
