favorite older ball that would hold up today?
« on: March 11, 2009, 01:50:13 PM »
lets go back atleast to before 2000, does anyone still throw a ball from this era? am i the only one who thinks that newer equipment is vastly overated, and some older balls from the 1990's still hold up. i still see a heck of a lot of hammers. i know 2 guys who average over 225 who use old crusty hammers from the early 1990s.
lets face it... this isnt deadlifting or picking up women.. its BOWLING!!!! Stop acting tough when you roll 4 strikes in a row!!!

Lots of balls are still "competitive". My favorite "blast from the past" is my ugly Revolution Renegade, an overseas ball produced by Brunswick in 2000 with a PK18 solid cover and a mild core that's a bit weaker than a Swarm (or a tad stronger than the Avalanche core).

While it is not an overly strong ball (and it was not designed for heavier conditions) this green thing rocks on medium to light conditions, esp. on sport shots where I can rely on its controllable hook. Awesome thing, and the best part are the confused glances of other bowlers who have no clue what this ball is, who manufactured it and why it actually is so versatile. Better ball than I expected it to be, after I got it NIB 2 years ago for half of the price of a Power Groove.

Danger Zone.. I was using it last night, someone asked what drilling I had on my black widow as they have never seen one hook so much before. As they DZs black also they were a bit confused when I told then it was a DZ
I have both and the DZ is much stronger than the BW, they both have roughly the same drill.

Note: #
My DZ is second hand, 10 years old 1000s of games and is good as new.
My BW is newish, 1 year old 100ish games and needs constant maintenance and has lost about 20% performance.

Columbia 300 Quake Pearl.  Got it out the closet while waiting on a replacement to get here.  Served it's purpose so far.

I've been throwing my Rhino Pro Copper X again this season at a house with less than oily conditions, and it's been awesome.  I shot 808 the first week of league with it this season and just had a 300 with it a few weeks ago.

Before I retired it a couple years ago, my AMF Ninja Fury was still my go-to ball whenever I hit conditions that were producing over-under results.  I actually won All-Events in our City Tournament in 2003 and 2004 with that ball.

Newer is not always better.
