favorite older ball that would hold up today?
« on: March 11, 2009, 01:50:13 PM »
lets go back atleast to before 2000, does anyone still throw a ball from this era? am i the only one who thinks that newer equipment is vastly overated, and some older balls from the 1990's still hold up. i still see a heck of a lot of hammers. i know 2 guys who average over 225 who use old crusty hammers from the early 1990s.
lets face it... this isnt deadlifting or picking up women.. its BOWLING!!!! Stop acting tough when you roll 4 strikes in a row!!!

Gotta give it to you, that was a great ball.

Mine is probably the Red Fuze that I've cashed in a few different tournaments with.

Before I retired it a couple years ago, my AMF Ninja Fury was still my go-to ball whenever I hit conditions that were producing over-under results.  I actually won All-Events in our City Tournament in 2003 and 2004 with that ball.

Newer is not always better.

I have two balls that I've been rolling with pretty regular with success, this season.

Cuda/C and a raspberry Ninja RPM.

I loved that bowling ball! Not intimately, though. I wish I knew where mine went..

Lots of balls are still "competitive". My favorite "blast from the past" is my ugly Revolution Renegade, an overseas ball produced by Brunswick in 2000 with a PK18 solid cover and a mild core that's a bit weaker than a Swarm (or a tad stronger than the Avalanche core).

Dizzy -
I concur that Revolution was an underrated company.

I have a green Revolution Vengeance from early 2000 that is still a staple in my bag. It's a surprisingly strong ball for a simple core, IMHO.

Shot 279-243 with a Whiplash Pearl (1998) last week to bail my series out.  Bought it on E-bay for $5.00, drilled pin on PAP.  Definitely my go to dry lane ball.

If I find some horrible carrydown or lots of oil, I still get out my old Track Champ. Just had it lightly resurfaced to remove most of the scratches etc. Still cuts through the slop nicely! Nice soft dull blue color, too.
