Ron Clifton Advanced Bowler Training Clinics 2008
« on: January 11, 2008, 08:38:45 AM »
I am starting to work on where I would like to go in 2008.

Although I am willing to bring my clinic anywhere in the country where bowlers will sign up, there are some places I would like to go this year and I am listing them below.

My favorite California chick Colleen (aka Thong Princess) has done some leg work for me in Southern California and I would like to try and put together two clinics there on back to back weekends. So if you are interested in attending one of my clinics please email me at rclifton@triad.rr.com

Attend all three days or any two days!
I am doing something different this year with the Clinics. In the past I only allowed sign ups for all three days. That unfortunately left some people out because they could not get off work to attend all three days. So this year I am going to take sign ups for all three days or ANY TWO days.

I strongly suggest that people attend all three days if they can because they can learn much more and it doesn’t cost very much additionally.

Cost
All three days $350 plus lineage
Any two days $300 plus lineage

I try hard to keep the cost of the clinics down so more people can afford to attend. I could charge a lot more and make more money but then I would be leaving out some bowlers that could not afford to attend. I do this because I love helping bowlers and that is more important to me than money. So for the cost of about two bowling balls that you are going to toss out in a year you can learn to improve your game and knowledge and that last a lifetime.

Lineage
Linage varies in different parts of the country, but I usually have tried to put the clinics in bowling centers where they offer a good deal on lineage. The most common charge is a flat rate of $50 per person for all three days. Some bowling centers are in high rent districts and must charge more.

Pro Shops
If there are any pro shops here that would like to host a clinic let me know. I like to work in centers that have pro shops in them and they usually do a LOT of business off of my clinic. It does not cost the pro shop anything so it is a great deal for them.

Coach to bowler ratio
The minimum number of attendees is 6 and the maximum number is 8.
I need at least 6 just to pay the expenses and I don’t go over 8 when I am working by myself so everyone will have plenty of one on one time.

No cookie cutter approach
Attending one of my clinics is more like private lessons than some clinics.
I teach each person at their own level and learning pace so lower average bowlers and high average bowlers can both attend the same clinic and each learn as much as they can absorb.

USBC certified coaches
A lot of bronze and silver level coaches take my clinics because I am willing to help them in their coaching career as well as their bowling career, so let me know if you are a coach.

When I know you are a coach I explain everything from a bowler’s point of view and from a coach’s point of view. I also share some of the “tricks of the trade” I have invented over the years that allows bowlers to learn things that other coaches have tried to teach them, but were never successful. One of the things that makes me unique as a coach is my ability to “force” bowlers bodies and minds to learn. A lot of us know some changes we need to make to our games but we never seem to be able to get our bodies (or minds) to cooperate.

Hi guys!
I am sorry I let this thread lay for so long without any further response. I had to put off setting up clinics for a while to attend to other business.

Southern California Clinics:
I hope to do 2 clinics on back to back weekends in Southern California; that way I can do two clinics off of just one airline ticket.

Fortunately my favorite California Chick Colleen has been working behind the scenes and has nailed down a date and location for one clinic.
Here is the info I have on that date and location so far:
April 4-6
AMF Arrowhead Lanes
299 W Orange Show Rd.
San Bernardino, Ca 92408
Clinic cost: $350 for all 3 days or $300 for any two days, lineage $2.50 per game (Limited to only 8 bowlers)
I will post sign up details soon.

I think Nicanor is checking out a location for us in San Diego for April 11-13 2008.

Don (Raven829)
I am sorry if I neglected you. I didn’t do very many clinics last year because we sent our kid off to college and my wife was having that “empty nest” feeling so I didn’t travel as much until she had time to adjust.
If you are not TOO mad at me and would be so kind as to find a host bowling center using the criteria I listed above we will see if we can put something together.

tdub36tjt Where are you in Mi?

ChinaManB, nospareball and born2bowl2 find me a place in Chicago, I have a friend up there I would like to visit. Besides with you three we are half way there already so it should be easy.

Kdameyer and others in Ohio, can someone find me a bowling center in a central location?

aabraham1209, I have a friend in Philly too I would like to visit, can you find me a bowling center?
Have bags will travel anywhere guys, the first step is to find a bowling center that would like to host. Some bowling centers love having clinics and things and others could care less about anything but birthday parties. Read the first post in this thread for more info.

Bowl great!
Ron Clifton

Ron,
Although I don't line in the Minnesota area (I live in South Dakota) I would be willing to travel there to attend a clinic.  I'm sorry that I wouldn't be much help in lining up the bowling alley though.

I have some pretty good contacts at bowling centers in the Cleveland Akron area. Is bowling really $250 a game at Arrowhead lanes . I think I can get it for $1 a game in this area.

The Cleveland/Akron area definitely have some good lanes to set up in Northern Ohio.  I would attend even if it was in Buffalo, NY.

I've got 3 that are planning to sign up for San Bernadino.  Two from my sport league, maybe the father of one of them, and one from this site.  Then, of course, there is me.  There is another possible from the sport league and I haven't even been talking it up

It looks like you Chicago and Cleveland boys can put together a couple clinics easy.
See if you can all come up with a couple of weekends that work for everyone.
That is always one of the harder things to do...find a weekend that everyone can attend. Start looking at weekends in late april or early May.

Or maybe it would be easier to post the weekends that you know you CAN'T attend and we will try to eliminate them first.

Bowl great!

Depending on dates/times & location I'd be interested in the Chicago/NW suburb area clinic.  I'm in Northern Kane County/Elgin area if that helps.  I'm sure Lex Perly at Elgin Lanes could set you up.  If you need a # I could get it.  I think it's on the North Central link under Elgin No-Tap tournament link.  Not sure if that's too far west for everyone or not.  Just my 2 cents.

Not sure if it matters, but Elgin Lanes does not have a typical pro-shop, i.e., store w/display of balls.  Lex will do drilling by appointment.  Just wanted that be known in case that has a bearing on which lanes you decide to pick.
