Ron Clifton Advanced Bowler Training Clinics 2008
« on: January 11, 2008, 08:38:45 AM »
I am starting to work on where I would like to go in 2008.

Although I am willing to bring my clinic anywhere in the country where bowlers will sign up, there are some places I would like to go this year and I am listing them below.

My favorite California chick Colleen (aka Thong Princess) has done some leg work for me in Southern California and I would like to try and put together two clinics there on back to back weekends. So if you are interested in attending one of my clinics please email me at rclifton@triad.rr.com

Attend all three days or any two days!
I am doing something different this year with the Clinics. In the past I only allowed sign ups for all three days. That unfortunately left some people out because they could not get off work to attend all three days. So this year I am going to take sign ups for all three days or ANY TWO days.

I strongly suggest that people attend all three days if they can because they can learn much more and it doesn’t cost very much additionally.

Cost
All three days $350 plus lineage
Any two days $300 plus lineage

I try hard to keep the cost of the clinics down so more people can afford to attend. I could charge a lot more and make more money but then I would be leaving out some bowlers that could not afford to attend. I do this because I love helping bowlers and that is more important to me than money. So for the cost of about two bowling balls that you are going to toss out in a year you can learn to improve your game and knowledge and that last a lifetime.

Lineage
Linage varies in different parts of the country, but I usually have tried to put the clinics in bowling centers where they offer a good deal on lineage. The most common charge is a flat rate of $50 per person for all three days. Some bowling centers are in high rent districts and must charge more.

Pro Shops
If there are any pro shops here that would like to host a clinic let me know. I like to work in centers that have pro shops in them and they usually do a LOT of business off of my clinic. It does not cost the pro shop anything so it is a great deal for them.

Coach to bowler ratio
The minimum number of attendees is 6 and the maximum number is 8.
I need at least 6 just to pay the expenses and I don’t go over 8 when I am working by myself so everyone will have plenty of one on one time.

No cookie cutter approach
Attending one of my clinics is more like private lessons than some clinics.
I teach each person at their own level and learning pace so lower average bowlers and high average bowlers can both attend the same clinic and each learn as much as they can absorb.

USBC certified coaches
A lot of bronze and silver level coaches take my clinics because I am willing to help them in their coaching career as well as their bowling career, so let me know if you are a coach.

When I know you are a coach I explain everything from a bowler’s point of view and from a coach’s point of view. I also share some of the “tricks of the trade” I have invented over the years that allows bowlers to learn things that other coaches have tried to teach them, but were never successful. One of the things that makes me unique as a coach is my ability to “force” bowlers bodies and minds to learn. A lot of us know some changes we need to make to our games but we never seem to be able to get our bodies (or minds) to cooperate.

Could I talk any of you guys in the Ohio area in to attending this year’s BTM Super School?

They have not announced it officially yet but I have been added to the roster of coaches for the 2008 Super School at Eastern Lanes in Middletown, Ohio. I wanted to do a clinic this summer in that area but since I will be working at Super School it would be great if some of you guys would attend SS instead.

Here are some of the other coaches you can work with as well:
John Jowdy, PBA and ABC Hall of Fame coach and instructor, Susie Minshew, USA Certified Gold Level Coach and Master Silver Instructor; Dug Barker, Silver-level instructor; Rolf Gauger, a coach with over 25 years as a teaching pro and former pro shop proprietor; Bill Holt, a USA silver-level instructor; Jim King, BTM editor and noted instructor; and Dean Hinitz, clinical sports psychologist who has helped the mental game of numerous members of the pro tour.

Tuition and enrollment
This year’s Super School runs from August 7-9. Early enrollment is $570 with the deposit paid by May
1. After that date, enrollment is $595. To reserve a space, there is a $200 deposit; the remainder is
due by July 15. Take an additional $25 off for if you attended in 2007. Tuition must be paid in full
before arriving at Super School. We accept MasterCard, Visa or Discover credit cards, and checks or
money orders in U.S. funds. School enrollment is limited, so be sure to sign up early. We reserve the
right to cancel Super School should the enrollment requirements not be reached, with a full tuition
refund. Students under the age of 21 must be accompanied by an adult at the hotel and school.

Curriculum
Super School combines on-the-lane analyses by coaches with classroom instruction to provide the
student with the most complete instruction possible. All averages are welcome at Super School. The
course will be divided equally between classroom and on-lane instruction. Hours are 8:15 a.m. to 5
p.m. with an hour lunch break. The evening before the Super School starts, there is a reception and
grip check, and Track Demo Days presentation at Eastern Lanes from 5:00 – 7:30 pm. Even though
you are evaluated throughout the week by your instructor, you will go through a series of analyses on
the first morning or at the reception on the preceding evening.

Freebies
All students will receive one free Track high performance bowling ball (drilling not included). The ball
offered will be announced at a later date. Your Track ball will be given to you before you leave the
school. Enrolled students will be asked in future correspondence for the ball weight they want for their
free ball. The night before Super School, during the reception and grip check, you will also have the
opportunity to try out all the new balls in the Track bowling ball lineup during Track’s “Demo Days”
event. Everyone will receive a free Level 1 arsenal report, provided by Jim King’s
www.buildanarsenal.com. Your free Level 1 ball arsenal report can be arranged during or after
leaving Super School. An optional feature is a custom designed Level 2 arsenal report, which would
include layouts designed to fit your bowling style. There may be other free products and services
offered by other companies to students during Super School.

Although SS is more expensive than my clinics it is not that much more when you figure in a new Track ball. You can request that you start with me as your coach if you wish and then I think you can move around some from coach to coach but I am not sure.

Damn, I've looked at the ads for it and wanted to go.  I'll just have to settle for the Gathering, but if I could swing it with work and all, I'd be there. Congrats, Ron, that is a feather in your cap.  You local guys: GO!

Ron, my only defense is that I need to support my bowling habit, and my six numbers just don't seem to pop up.  It seems so simple, just numbers, only six of them, but that's how  the ball rolls. Hey, is anybody running a contest for a free entry?  And maybe gas money!

Usedtolikebowling,

Thank you for the kind words.
As one of the top bowlers in the PBA¡¦s southern region for many years and also on the ¡§most liked by everyone list¡¨ you are sorely missed on the regional circuit.

That ¡§real career¡¨ thing has to come in there somewhere and I hope your present path works out great for you.

kev3inp,
If my numbers hit I will pay your way. ļ

Novawagonmaster,
¡§The Gathering¡¨ is good!
You gona bring the Nova??? It can meet my 71 Datsun 510

Just a heads up so you can mark your calander.

The Ron Clifton Advanced Bowler Training Clinic for St. Louis is set.

May 9th 10th and 11th
AMF Strike 'N Spare Lanes
1309 N. Lindbergh Blvd.
Saint Louis, MO 63132

A side note:
I was contacted by someone at AMF corporate and he said he wanted to help place some of my clinics in AMF centers. He knows first hand the value of coaching to both AMF customers and AMF bowling centers. I said I wanted to go to St. Louis and he said no problem.
In a couple of days I got a call from Keith Barbarash the manager of AMF Strike 'N Spare Lanes in St. Louis offering me anything thing I needed.

Thank you AMF
