Secretary Suspending Me - Need Help!
« on: October 30, 2009, 03:01:01 PM »
Quick story:

League Secretary, on his own, has decided to suspend me for an altercation over telling someone to pull up their pants.  He, the league secretary, has been telling other bowlers that the suspension will be either 1 year or 2 weeks depending on my reaction when he notifies me in person this coming week.

Longer story:

The bowler misses a spare and proceeds to make a scene of all scenes and blamed me for it.  He goes to the secretary telling him I did this while he was on the approach.  He addresses the issue with me and I told him that was incorrect and was backed up by the insane bowler's team captain.  I thought this was the end of it.

I take the following week off because I do not want to deal with the bowler the following week.  My team captain tells me he was badgering the league officials over the incident all evening, and even bothered my teammates on my whereabouts.

So my team captain gets a call 10days after the incident and the secretary tells him I have been suspended for a year.  But later said he over reacted and said it would be 2 weeks or a year depending on my reaction when they tell me in person.  His mind is made up even after hearing the other team captain.

How can he do this?  I dont think he can do this, at least from what I read in the USBC rule book.  I need options, opinions, or something!

HELP!

Thanks again for the support

I emailed the rules committee and they confirmed what everyone is saying here.  He does not have the authority.  I guess we'll see how it goes down this evening.

Thanks again!

Hopefully you print the email from the rules committee and bring them with you just in case the secretary says you have no proof of what the rules committee wrote.

Krazy,  Does your team drink????  If so go to the owner or manager of the house.   Tell him you will pull your team out at the half....

In todays bowling world,  League sec's are a dime a dozen...

But bowlers who pay into the envelope and drink beer,  are very much in demand......

Like was stated before that motion has to be voted on....

If the Sec has that much power why do you need a president?

I got snow balled.  Said this is what the 'owner' wants done.  I stood my ground that I did nothing wrong and still was 'suspended' for 2 weeks.

Screw them, I will finish out the year and not return.

That's a NEW ONE for me .. does the owner have a say in the USBC rules? That never came up with my experiences!

I would give my two week written notice with pay and send the letter as to why you are quitting to your local associaiton, the President of the league and the manager of the bowl.  Plus if the center is a corporate one, I'd send a letter to the company too.  I wouldn't finish the season.  It just gives the Secretary the impression that he/she does have that power.

A bowling alley is a public facility. While the owner may own the facility,he/she cannot stop you from entering the establishment unless it is posted as private property.
In my 30 plus years of being around bowling alleys, I've never seen the alley/building posted as private property. I HAVE seen the parking lot posted as private property to stop people from parking there who live in adjacent housing/apartment complexes and are not bowling/bowlers.

Though it obviously isn't the case here, item 3 under rule 104a gives a team captain the right to remove a player from the team, but if requested, good and sufficient reason for the removal must be furnished to the league board. Otherwise, rule 115a must be used, and apparently that hasn't been done, either. At any rate, a player can't be dismissed from a league without the bowler having the opportunity to defend his/her position at a league hearing/meeting.

Dont know what to do, they already had their mind made up.

When I defended myself, they said I was being combative with the bowler.  Because I told him to go ahead and throw the ball when he threatened to throw it at me.  WTH?

Said if I didnt like the 2weeks they would make it a year.

What is USBC going to say to a private center owner that is going to make a difference?

You need to man up and go to USBC. You cannot be suspended from a league by the owner, secretary or anyone else without proper procedures being followed.

If you're not going to act on the steps we've told you to take, you need to stop telling us about it because you just sound like you're looking for someone to complain to. Either call USBC, or drop it. I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but we can't help you. You're either going to fight it or you're not, but if you're going to fight it, fight it until you're told by USBC that you have no dispute.

Already sent off a response to the Rules Committee, and an e-mail to the Association President

It isn't the center.  From the posts that you've written I gathered that it was all the league and its secretary that was causing the trouble.  Am I incorrect?

If its the abuse of power and not following the rules for dismissing a player then the USBC can get involved.

The center just doesn't want a lot of drama.

I would fight them tooth and nail and then tell them to stick it were the sun dont shine. Bowl the rest of the year and stick it in their face, and every day I would go up the secretary say good evening with a BIG SMILE on my face before your league starts. Ruin his whole fricken night.
