Smoke Free Bowling Alleys.....
« on: February 26, 2008, 04:13:05 AM »
I hear more and more about bowling alleys starting to go smoke free, some completely and others during certain hours.  However, here in Iowa they are debating a statewide ban on public smoking...I won't dish out all the details but this would include all bowling alleys.

So my question is, would you actually give up bowling if you couldn't smoke while you did it?

I pray for the day when this state wises up and makes bowling alleys smoke free.

I just love coughing up a lung the entire next day after bowling......

I live in New Jersey, they banned smoking in bowling alleys about 2 years ago. Best move they ever made, the air is cleaner, the house is cleaner, and I enjoy bowling more than when it was smoke filled.
 Yes I am a smoker.

Our center went smoke free ( military) last season. We lost about 6 folks on one night, none on the other I bowl on and none on the ladies night, according to my wife.

I can't say for the rest of them but there's a few. I smoke and I'm still there, just go outside when I want to smoke, no big deal. I smoke outside my home so it's nothing new.

We just switched in the state of Illinois.  Bars and everything....I love it!!!!!!!!  Makes the day go a little longer, due to smoke breaks....  But, I really like it.  Heck I can even wear a jacket inside without it smelling like @ss afterwards.

I am a non-smoker and I do support smoke-free bowling alleys.  I think it is great.  How can you be expected to perform  your best in conditions like the ones found in smoking bowling alleys.  I just don't get it.

I hope that Iowa passes the bill.

Here in NY - no smoking in any public buildings.  There's even talk of banning smoking in your own car if there are children present!

But it's so commonplace now at the bowling alleys that none of the smokers complain, they just go outside.

New York has been statewide smoke free for a few years and its much much better.  There's not that musty smoke stench in any of the buildings anymore and my asthma and allergies are much better because of it.  Nowadays I don't have to worry about walking through second hand smoke and holding my breath as I do like I did when I was younger.  Though the house that held the school Varisty leagues was always smoke free during the league because it was a school event and everyone participating was under 18.

I work at a smoke-free bowling alley, just west of Des Moines, IA.

The only issue I see at work is when smokers try and get a puff or two inbetween frames.  Man, that slows down the game!

I hope they pass the ban!  Then I can bowl all my leagues and not smell like an ashtray afterwards!

The house here is smoke free, has been since it opened about eight years ago.  It's great, I love it.  There are a number of smokers that bowl here, they go outside to smoke, and I don't know anyone who went to bowl elsewhere because of it.

In Minnesota all bowling alleys are now smoke free and it is SO nice. I work in Minneapolis and they had a ban before the state did and it was a wonderful change. I bowl in West St Paul, and they didn't have an ordinance until the state passed it. what a difference. don't know anyone who quit bowling because of the ban...
