Who is a bowling coach on here?
« on: August 04, 2007, 02:27:37 AM »
This was sparked by the "Gold Certification?" thread.  I am curious just how many are coaches. If you coach bowlers:

Are you certified? If so what level of certification?

Do you coach as a volunteer or are you paid for your services?

If you are paid, what do you charge?

I work with a silver level coach who charges $50 for a single one hour session. He also offers packages which can lower the price to $30 an hour for a 10 lesson package. Very affordable IMHO.

I'm registered to take the bronze conference in two weeks. Initially I will be a volunteer coach in the youth program and an apprentice to my coach with his adult students.

I am certified at Level 1 and am going to attend the Bronze level certification class this September in Fredrick, MD.  The house that I coach at is paying for me and two of my fellow coaches to attend the Bronze class.

I coach our house's youth leagues and am the youth coordinator for the house.  We have about 100 youth bowlers on two Saturday leagues.  I currently do not charge for lessons and as Buggs41 mentioned, I have the same type of arrangement with the owner of the house (my children bowl in the leagues for free and they do not charge me to bowl).

Last year I coached the Saturday morning league by myself (we had 12 teams of 5 bowlers) and I was stretched very thin.  The two coaches who helped me in the Saturday afternoon league were told by the owner that if they helped me in the morning league that she would pay for them to attend the Bronze level class.  They agreed, so I thankfully have some help this year.  We also have a travel league in our area that bowls every other Sunday morning and we have two teams from the house that bowl in that league.

All-in-all this keeps my weekends pretty busy as you can imagine!

Ric,
So what day this month are we playing golf?  There must be a Holiday Inn Express close to one of our golf courses.

I am USBC Bronze Level certified and a Dick Ritger level III coach. I don't coach must, but when I do give lessons I charge $15 an hour (bowler picks up the linage). I think this is reasonable based on my costs. I have a lot invested in equipment(Ebonite Bowlers MAP, camera and computer), training and materials.

The main reason I went through coaches training was because of the lack of certified or qualified coaches in my area. I wanted to get better and the only way was to learn to be my own coach.

I stopped at the bronze level, because I liked the Ritger method better. There is no comparison between the 2 programs. Dick has developed a very comprehensive program. He covers all the bases; drills, mental game and lane play. He in my opinion is the best coach in the country.

How do you get Dick Ritger certified?

TP

Dick Ritger's program is fantastic!  To find out about it look up Dick Ritger Enterprises and call the 800 number. http://www.dickritger.com/  I went through 3 days of heavy training from Dick Ritger.  He holds classes all over the country.  Some are held by Bob Rea.  I have never taken any of the one's by Bob but from what I hear they are very good also.  Many people claim that the Ritger system is very cookie cutter and in some ways it is but for basics it works.

Took me a while to get around to answering this one.
I have been coaching bowlers for the last 30 days straight without a break PLUS the gathering. I did not even want to see the word bowling for a couple of days.

I am the world’s only RCABT certified  Platinum level coach.
No other certifications other than that “certifiable” mentioned earlier.

I have worked with every level of bowler there is I guess; from the PBA national tour and Senior tour and regional tours down to new youth bowlers. I love them all!

Bowlers from across the US and sometimes other countries (man can the Italians cook) come to my center in Winston Salem, NC to train for a few hours, a day or even two weeks at the time. I love them all!

I do “Ron Clifton Advanced Bowler Training” three day clinics across America. I love traveling to different states and cities training bowlers that otherwise would never have the opportunity to work with a Platinum certified coach. I love them all!

Email me if you would like to see the Ron Clifton Advanced Bowler Training three day clinic come to your town. rclifton@triad.rr.com

I write “Top techniques” on how to throw a bowling ball bi-monthly for Bowling This Month Magazine

Listed in Bowler’s Journals top 100 coaches

Own and write for www.bowl4fun.com
Which has actually been broken for a while; hopefully it will be moved to a BIGGER server tomorrow and I can start working on the site again. Right now there are 46 articles on how to throw a bowling ball in the archive section. http://www.bowl4fun.com/ron/roncarchive.htm
Between 10,000 and 15,000 people from around the world read the articles each month.
A lot of the articles have been translated (I have no idea how well) into a half dozen languages and posted/published around the world. Love them all!

Hopefully will start my first book soon…in the planning stage now.

Prices:
I am cheap! I am sure I could charge a lot more and get away with it; but then I may price myself out of meeting some of the finest people in the world (bowlers) and I would not trade that for any amount of money. I coach for the love of helping people and a love for the sport…not the money.

Prices for training in my home center in Winston Salem, NC are below. I never give lessons for less than one hour. I always explain what I am doing and why and that takes time. If the bowler understands WHY they are making a change and HOW they are going to learn to make the change they are more willing to stick with it long after the lessons are over.

All prices are plus lineage fee of $1.50 per game
(PBA members ask about special discounts on training fees and lineage)

1 person for 2 hours $100 (lineage $1.50 per game)
Creekside Lanes League bowlers $60 for 2 hours
2 people for 2 hours $150 ($75 per person) --- save $50 as a couple
2 people for 3 hours $200 ($100 per person)

Group lessons at Creekside Lanes, Winston Salem, NC
3 or more people for 4 hours $100 per person

Full days with Ron: (6 hours)
1 person $300 per day
2 people $200 each per day
3 people or more $175 each per day

Prices for Ron Clifton Advanced Bowler Training clinics in your town:
Minimum of 6 and a maximum of 8 bowlers $325-$350 each plus lineage.depending on location.

This usually includes 6 hours of on-lane work for 3 days and two one hour lunch & lectures on two of the days. Includes video analysis with clear freeze frames and slow motion of even the fastest releases.

That should cover it!
Special thanks to all of you that are helping out the youth bowlers!

Bowl great!

Not certified.  Don't need a piece of paper.

Been bowling for over 30 years.  Was signed with different ball companies for a number of years.  Now only drill bowling balls on request. Use to scout lanes for bowlers at some of the regionals before they disallowed it.  Still do it at some scratch events.  Coach juniors at local center for over 15 years.

Don't charge for work.  Do it because I like the game.

As for youth bowling (or almost any sport), why does the joy seem to dis-
appear from the youth when adults (coaches) become involved?  The number 1
objective for any activity should be to have fun---not to satisfy some
coach.  Go ahead and bash again--but I am not wrong.
