Todays Show - Spoiler
« on: March 21, 2010, 09:09:23 AM »
Yes today's show was pretty brutal to watch.  But I felt bad for Kretzer that they cut to commercial for his final shots.  Poor guy finally wins a tournament and you don't get to see him finish it out.  At least they showed him holding the trophy for a second during the fade out sequence.
Current Equipment
Alpha Jackal
Jackal Flash
Primal Shock
Rogue Assassin
Revolt Havoc
Revolt Vengeance
Venom Shock
Blue Coral Venom
Fatal Venom
Dessert Tank

I disagree about the Cheetah Championship that ended with Ciminelli vs Duke. That was easily the best of the WSoB telecasts.

Let's see:

  • Complain about scores being too high

  • Complain about scores being too low

  • Complain about bowling with "plastic" equipment

  • Complain about missed spares

  • Complain about Kulick bowling in the ToC

  • Complain about the bracket format

  • Complain about about 2 bowlers bowling a 3-game set, and the best score wins

I'd like to see some of you house hacks (I'm one too) bowl with one pattern on one lane, and another pattern on another lane.  If you don't like it, then don't watch, or at least offer the PBA ideas of what they can do to improve their telecasts.

If you think you're good enough, then put your money where your mouth is, shoe up, and show the rest of us how it's done.

We do this on our Men's league. We do a randomn draw of sport shots and every other lane is a different shot. So for instance we have Chameleon on the left lanes throughout the house and Shark on the right lanes throughout the house. It makes things quite interesting.

I don't mind the missed 3-6-10s, it's more difficult than it looks.  It's the single pin spares that should never be missed by a pro.  They use plastic so they can go straight at it without adusting their release much giving them a large margin for error (2x diameter of the ball) and they still miss it?  Pros are supposed to be the best, they claim to be able to hit certain spot every time yet on a single pin spare they completely whiff.

Nothing is more exciting than the stepladder finals.  Everything else was lame.  The documentary style show was "interesting" but I don't need to ever see it done again.

First off, I have nothing but respect for ALL of the the professionals out there trying to represent the PBA.  I will agree that some of the shows this year were very hard to watch but at the same time it showed how human these guys are.  Everyone talks about missing simple spares, I agree it shouldn''t happen at this level of competition but every professional athlete has lapses in concentration.  A perfect example is a NFL receiver dropping a pass when he is wide open, it happens to everyone at some time.

Back to the TV shows, I hate the two oil pattern idea, I don''t think it proves anything and only makes the professionals look worse on TV.  I like the idea of new concepts but I don''t think that is the one to stick with, go with different formats like the two matches at one time.  I would like to see maybe 8 guys on TV with a three game telecast.  8 players cut to 4, and then the 4 down to 2 for a final.

Well, just my opinion and I''m sure everyone has theres but bashing these guys who are ultimately trying to help the game survive is not fair to them in any way.

Oh and as for the plastic ball championship this week.  I'm not a fan.

Is Wes going to compete this year?  I wonder what Wilbon will say either way.

I guess I wouldn't care.  Perhaps that's what needs to happen and then rebuild it starting over from scratch.

The whole problem is that you can't have pro's shooting 170's on TV.  Everyone on this board knows how hard the patterns are and having 2 different patterns on 2 lanes is even more difficult.  But for the casual fan watching at home who bowls in a mix league one night a week and averages 190, they just watch it and think "these guys are horrible, I can beat them."

Until the USBC mandates a set of sport patterns for ALL sanctioned leagues (like the red, white and blue patterns), and get the scores and averages back down to normal, the pro's are going to look ridiculous on TV.

And if Randy Pederson tells me one more time that a "league" bowler can't adjust hand position, I am going to reach through the TV and rip is head off.  Not everyone who bowls in a league sucks and not all of the great bowlers need a PBA card to prove it.

Why is there more oil in the parking lot then on the lanes I bowl on?

+1

an idea would be to have the top 3 or 5 avg amat bowlers from the hosting house
bowl in the tournament and track how they do, then compare them to the pros to show how the amats would do against the pro, and that it is not as easy as it look.

I actually liked having different patterns on each lane it takes out the "dominate"  feel of a tournament i.e. we know boowler X is going to bowl well today because it is the shark pattern etc etc.  now it is more random.
