56554 - DV8 / DV8 Chill Pearl (WWRD 5/16/2024)

DV8 Chill Pearl      @15lbs 2.495 .051   DynamiCore/HK22
WWRD 05/16/2024      12-16 lbs    Alternate Core 12-13 lbs   Volume- Medium
Core- Diva 2.0            Coverstock- HK22 Inciter Max Flip Pearl (NEW)
FTF believed that the original DV8 Chill (6/23/2023) would be a great bigger symmetrical as a benchmark for a lot of bowlers. The Diva 2.0 core rolled well as did the original Diva. DV8 now presents the Chill Pearl. What gets balls cleaner down the lane and more responsive to the friction? The HK22 base formula of course. The additive package of the Inciter Max Flip Pearl give another hint towards this ball’s intended motion. If you are bowling on more friction either from the start or caused by transition, consider the great looking DV8 Chill Pearl to open up your angles and turn the corner. The shape is reminiscent to the Brunswick Melee Jab. DynamiCore is there to improve your hitting power and ball durability.

Layout: 40 x 4 ½ x 35

This ball is, without a doubt, one of my favorite releases that SPI has produced in the last 5 years.  The Attention Star has a rare combination of having a strong backend while still having a “stick to the lane” feeling – I never feel that it's at risk of over-shooting the break point, which can easily happen with some strong-backend balls.  The reaction shape of this ball is a strong, hard arcing backend – I would not call it skid-flip, but it does have an impressive amount of down-lane motion.  At it's out-of-box finish, it is not meant for true heavy oil, but for me it worked on anything from medium-heavy to medium-dry oil conditions.  This one is an absolute must-have.

If you need a ball that ignores heavy oil, the Harsh Reality is your best choice.  This is the classic “strong core, strong coverstock” combination that any bowler looking for a heavy or long oil pattern ball needs.  Replacing the original Reality is a massive task, and while the Harsh is a touch stronger than that ball, it lives up to the hype.  The amount of midlane traction that this ball creates is off the charts. Due to this, once the lanes dry up, you'll need to transition to something better suited for medium lanes – the original Eternity is a perfect step down.

Xponent Pearl - Ball Specs
Cover Stock: Reserve Blend 702 Pearl

Core: Shrapnel 2.0 Symmetric
Layout: 5 x 4 x 4 1/2
RG: 2.48
Differential: 0.042
Intermediate Diff: N/A

Review
The Xponent Pearl features the all new reserve blend 702 pearl coverstock wrapped around the Shrapnel 2.0 Symmetric core. If the Xponent is the benchmark ball, then the Xponent pearl is the ball for medium to dry lanes that compliments that so well My Xponent pearl is drilled pin down and is still really clean through the fronts, and even though I drilled it to be slower down lane, this ball still really continues through the pins.  I have found this ball to be really good on house patterns after the first couple games, as well as some medium length challenge patterns.   For a mid part of the bag, I believe this is a must have ball.

Harsh Reality - Ball Specs

Review
The Tour Engineered 900 Series all new Harsh Reality utilizes the Reserve Batch Blend 902 solid coverstock combined with the Disturbance Asymmetric A.I. Core to give you the strongest ball in the 900 Global line. I am convinced the Harsh Reality is stronger than the original reality and slightly better performance.  Mostly due to the AI core technology. I drilled my Harsh Reality with my standard pin up layout and this ball did not disappoint.  It was able to read in the mid lane but still continue through the pins. I have used this on a 43 foot high volume pattern as well as typical house shots.  I found this ball performing well on both, however this ball thrives when it sees a lot of volume. For me the Harsh Reality is two to three boards stronger than the original Reality. The Harsh Reality will be my first choice on heavy oil patterns. This is a great ball for all levels of bowlers that are looking for a strong ball to help with those really oliy fresh lane conditions.

43294 - Roto Grip / Hustle X-Ray Review
« Last post by addynyr on May 02, 2024, 08:51:35 AM »
Layout: 4 1/2 x 3 1/2 x 5
Surface: 2000 Abralon

The hustle X-Ray brings back the Hustle core with the VTC Solid Coverstock.  The dull factory finish gives this Hustle more traction in the oil than the Hustle RIP which is finished with Reacta Gloss.  I drilled the Hustle X-Ray with a pin down layout to give me a different look than the RIP.  I wanted this hustle to roll similarly to the IQ 78U but with more length and backend.  I was able to accomplish just that.  The weaker core allows me to keep the ball more in front of me when the lanes conditions call for a more direct line to the pocket.  Compared to the Hustle RIP which is drilled pin up, I saw about 4 boards weaker and much less overall flare keeping me straighter on the lanes.  The hustle X-Ray a great entry level reactive ball with tons of potential and performance at its price point.  This hustle X-Ray will work best for light to medium oil conditions, those with low ball speeds and those with higher rev rates.

The reaction of the 900 Global Xponent Pearl shows how massively important the coverstock and surface finish is to the final overall motion – whereas the original Xponent rolls very smooth and predictable, the Xponent Pearl has an aggressive, flippy backend reaction.  It is super clean through the front part of the lane, and picks up hard in the later part of the midlane.  This ball is perfect for medium to medium-dry lane conditions. For lanes that are too oily for the Xponent Pearl, the Xponent slides in perfectly.  As far as comparisons go, the Xponent pearl rolls very similar to the Summit Peak for me.

TESTING ENVIRONMENT:

Length:43

Volume:Med-High

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc):THS 12:1 Ratio

BALL:
Coverstock: : VTC Hybrid Reactive
Core: : Hustle Core
Finish: Reacta Gloss
RG: 2.53 (15lb)
Differential: .030 (15 lb)

ME:
Right-Handed Tweener
Speed: 12-13 mph
Rev Rate: 315
Axis Tilt: 14°
Axis Rotation: 74°
PAP: 5 1/8 R 7/8 Up

Ball Layout: Pin Up 4 7/8 X 4 1/4 X 2 1/2 VLS

Roto Grip has added a Hybrid option to their hustle line. The Hustle B/R/Y combines the proven Hustle core with VTC Hybrid. The Hustles have always been great bang for your buck balls and this one definitely fits that mold.

I tested the Hustle B/R/Y on our high volume/high ratio house pattern. I noticed right away that it was pretty responsive when trying to throw it closer to the friction. It was a little stronger than I expected which I attribute to the hybrid cover making it a little more continuous down-lane. The pearl versions of the Hustle had a tendency to get forward a little quick for me but while the B/R/Y is certainly quicker off the spont than it's solid counterparts, its definitely rounder than the Wine.  I liked this ball best as the lane began to transition as it would clear our high friction front lane panels but still had plenty of pop to get off the back-ends that hadn't completely opened up yet.

This ball is a great piece for a first time bowler who is looking to get more hook for their money.
