What happen to Robert Smith?
« on: September 18, 2007, 07:01:12 AM »
He signed with Elite. Booooooo!
They shouldn't of let him go. I can see they signed Riga Kalfas & David Leverage.

Jeff, do you know why they let Robert go?

Yep. Pity they didn't do it for the right reason. The Soakers were a great way to get your money's worth: well-designed balls that will/would last and last and last.  They weren't radical or brand new designs, but they worked exactly the way they said they would. They were bowler's balls.

I don't think he will be bowling full-time, I doubt he'll be chasing the tour around like Dino Castillo did this year.  A few events, the majors, maybe.

Hard to say whether he would feel the same way if he were still exempt.  Probably not.

Brian wants to bowl only part time and the tournaments he chooses. He doesn't want to be forced to bowl three quarters of the season to fulfill his exemption. Brian will tell you that his performance last year had nothing to do with equipment. Injuries were part of it. He has come to a realization a long time ago that the day would come to move on and he is content with that. By the way, Brian has other interests outside the PBA that are more profitable for him. The lack of prize money didn't hurt his decision either.

I hope not!  If he was injured last year I hope he can make a comeback.

I heard that Mr. C was funding Robert on tour, so maybe Mr. C decided he was not the one anymore. RS has a physical gift that 99% of us can never relate too and maybe he thinks those Elite balls will give him a chance while lacing his pockets with some dollars. Hawaii, no cheap place to live so he needs guaranteed income for sure.

When it comes to what company is better then what company, there is definitely a difference. This is highlighted by the return of Hammer. For those that don't know, Hammer had resin before anyone but the owner wanted no parts of it. They made X-Caliber and Hammer fell off! Ebonite revived the Hammer name and now you see "spider" balls everywhere. LOL Someone noted Big B makes the Elite technology. Big B has not been heard of on tour for real since the first year or two they had control of the oil. Big B has been synonymous with early roll, bet RS cannot wait to have some balls that are not clean through the fronts. LOL

I thnik Robert Smith got smart getting away from Storm is a great idea!
What would all you guys say if he comes out of the gate throwing hellfire and brimstone down the lane winning tourneys left and right. Would going to a different compnay be stupid then?

What if he matches up better with Elite?

Storm might be good but they are not the greatest IMO

Inking a deal with an Ebonite owned company okay, we all know Ebonite is building Hammer and Columbia up. Elite has not shown there stuff is "winning" material yet. Duke was a free agent bowling with Storm by choice. Don't tell me about Voss being hurt, in case people forgot, Duke bowled injuried and was kicking butt.

Talent, everyone has it on tour...a mental game, everyone does not...equipment, have the right ball and it can help a bowler get where they want to go. I am a Robert fan, until the PBA gives the boomers a pattern where they can free up the swing, it's going to be tough gaining the confidence to win. Chameleon, Cheetah, Viper are all at the gutter early...HELLO WALTER RAY!!! Shark, sure you can play in, cannot boom though. Cannot kick in on the Scorpion either and just get loose. I know someone remembers the original Cheetah when Bob was bouncing the Boost from rail to rail on what was then called "E". PBA took that right away, not going to let someone with more God-given physical ability just dominate where they are comfortable unless they go by WRW.

Umm, didn't Voss win in Birmingham throwing an R47?  Maybe you think you know otherwise, but you don't.

Actually, Duke withdrew from no less than 7 tournaments last year because of injury.  Didn't finish higher than 64th place.  Not exactly kicking butt during his injury.

Just sayin'.
