If he matches that layout the Hexplosion should definately offer up a nice smooth arc. Even with the identical layout the hexplosion is not going to get into a roll near as early as your Rule. It should be a good complement ball to the Rule.
If you get it drilled and plan on using it for singles and doubles in Baton Rouge...give yourself some time to get used to it. You may want to polish the cover up a bit.
Rick is the only person that I know of that has said they seemed tighter in s+d than in team. The heads are dry up quite a bit before you get to doubles. The Hexplosion works great for me on drier conditions and gives me good length when the heads start to go, but I have a pretty weak drilling on it.
